just use the term "trans". it's not quite grammaticaly correct, but it's not a slur.

Why is tranny a slur?

Regardless, if he is out as someone that identifies as female there is a chance he may receive various levels of physical and mental abuse. Testosterone driven teens are not the most stable individuals especially in a group setting. I personally witnessed a gay boy I went to school with being spit on flicked with wet towels and shoved around in the boys locker room. Speaking up for him helped little.

You can only stop what you see. I went to the same school all twelve years, as did my three siblings, and I was relentless when it came to people being picked on. I wouldn't stand for it and all of the teachers knew it. If there was a confrontation they knew there was a good reason and let me slide.

I still remember standing on my toes, with my hands on my hips, getting into a big footbal players face to confront him about abusive behavior. The sheepish look on his face was priceless. :w00t:

So what opinions do we have here? Should someone with male genitals have the right to use the women's locker room or restroom because they identify as female?

Absolutely not.

Absolutely not.

Let's keep the discussion going. You'd be tolerant and respectful of a trans woman using the male bathroom, then?

Maybe everyone should have their own bathroom, so trans, gays, and envious straights can't see your junk! I was always curious on why it was okay to have communal bathrooms of the same gender but taboo for the opposite sex, especially with the homophobia in our society.

Well, alright then. That's great! It's a start. However, that is not always the case. If trans women could feel comfortable in the male restroom while waiting to fully transition, there would be less of a problem because you'd be creating a safe envionment for them.

Another issue is passability. If you can't tell a woman may still have a penis when she enters the bathroom, she gets a pass. My friend is trans, and she doesn't pass well, so she uses the male restroom to avoid conflict. Well, to avoid making /other/ people uncomfortable. But she gets harassed in the male bathrooms almost every time she goes in, I have to stand outside and wait for her to make sure she's safe, because because trans women are being murdered solely for being trans at a frightening speed. I am afraid for my trans friends. So, I appreciate you being willing to respect them in public places, but there's going to have to be more; standing up for the victim when you see them become a target, respecting pronouns, respecting boundaries, and encouraing everyone else to do the same.

I was always curious on why it was okay to have communal bathrooms of the same gender but taboo for the opposite sex, especially with the homophobia in our society.

I think about this a lot, too. I've personally known more lesbians to be sexual predators than trans women. Sure they're out there, but does the entire trans community need to be stigmatized for it?

I heard a decent argument for keeping trans individuals not using the same bathroom from someone who is for trans individuals.

It does essentially boil down to a difference in assumed strength and bits, though.

I don't know if someone would be willing to go through the entire process of diagnosis to get their kicks, but then I wouldn't be surprised if someone did.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems like a slippery slope fallacy.

Oh my goodness. This is the world we live in now. It's just impossible to keep up with all the newly appropriated nomenclature.

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The University of Tennessee is asking students to use “ze, hir, hirs, and xe, xem, xyr.”

No, those words are not another language. According to the University of Tennessee, they’re actually the gender-neutral singular versions of pronouns. gender-pronouns.png?w=438&h=249(UT Knoxville)

The University of Tennessee Office for Diversity and Inclusion is asking students and faculty to use the pronouns in order to create a more inclusive campus. They say it alleviates a heavy burden for people expressing different genders or identities.

I see your point, I think the best solution in that case where the environment is hostile for whatever reason would be for them to be able to use another more neutral location entirely.

So, I appreciate you being willing to respect them in public places, but there's going to have to be more; standing up for the victim when you see them become a target, respecting pronouns, respecting boundaries, and encouraing everyone else to do the same.

What?

It sort of is. I don't genuinely think someone not actually trans could go through the entire process.

But fear isn't rational, and it would only take one even bad example to strike up a panic.

We have a problem in that our society is built up !ainly on binary positions. You are either male or female, or pick an example, when that isn't really true.

Trying to fix it is a difficult task, and I'm not really sure the best course of action.

You can't force people to accept someone.

Well, you can. Desegregation sort of worked that way. And it eventually paid off. But the first people there took a lot of abuse.

Yeah I saw that. Forget it. I prefer the Futurama lingo from the episode "The Beast with a Billion Backs" Schlee, Schlimm, or Schler.

Perry had identified as a gay male until she was 13.

http://www.foxnews.c...se-locker-room/

How does this work? gay? male? 13? he was still practically a kid. He was a young BOY.

Teenagers can go through some strange, confusing times, but seems as if he has been encouraged to continue. Maybe he will have a "cosmetic" procedure to remove his manhood when he becomes an adult, but MAYBE he will not, teenagers can go through strange phases and most of the times they pass.

How the heck could a 13 year old know they are a gay male?

I do not believe he should be allowed to use the girls.......note he even says girls locker room, not ladies or womens, girls.......children/ teenagers when at school are there to learn, when they leave school and become adults, then they can choose their preference...but at school?? what the heck has happened to our youths?!

The term tranny is as offensive as the term ****** or ****** ... it should be removed

Well then you two should go after the porno industry, because they use that word like it's going out of style and no one or very few have protested the use of that word yet. Not even the transgender actors. Lol - I guess they don't care since they make a lot of money from that industry.

Anyway, it starts there (the porno industry) if you want people to be politically correct about it.

Well to answer your question as to how can a 13 year old boy know if he is a gay male I knew I was attracted to the opposite sex by the age of 7. It never occured to me to think "This boy or that boy are handsome or ugly" But I certainly judged "That girl is pretty or ugly"

Now as far as identifying as gay or trans, I was talking to some neighbors at a barbecue who are gay men and the subject of Jenner came up and they could not identify with him. The exact quote was "why would you cut that off I love my dick"

Don't you know everything is offensive anymore. Barely can talk about race or sexuality without someone being offended even when the person is obviously not trying to offend.

I just want to say, as a non binary person, I am ashamed of this. They/them are gender neutral. You don't have to make **** up. Same goes with otherkin/ transracial/whatever bull**** you can think of that's been coming out of the woodworks of Tumblr. Based on my time on Tumblr, though, I gotta say, it seems like most of the people who come up with **** like this are either children or very dedicated, convincing trolls.

What about the burden it places on people that have to follow these guidelines. I've read other stories about colleges trying to force people to be PC, its getting rediculous, no it has gotten rediculous, it passed getting a long time ago.

Not that I'm saying its alright to go around making fun of people because they are different in some way. You shouldn't ever mistreat anyone.

I'm sure the thought police has ways of dealing with unpersons rejecting the newspeak.

Expelling them, for instance.

Transgender men may feel different about it than gay men.

That was my point with that bottom paragraph. A gay man is male not someone identifying as being female, therefore would never consider surgery.
