Researchers discovered alien megastructure?

The Ballesteros, et al. paper, which ascribes the dimming of KIC 8462852 to a ringed planet and its Trojan asteroids, calls for a planet 30 percent the size of Boyajian's Star, exclusive of the rings. That's much larger than Jupiter.  It's generally understood that planets don't grow much larger than Jupiter, their own gravity compressing and densifying them, instead.

Further-- a body of such size could fuse hydrogen at its core, making it a star, not a planet. No such conspicuous star has been seen at the specified distance from KIC 8462852.

This guy explains a little on the " 2 new papers"

OK thanks.  Neither of those ideas is new and I am guessing that the researchers are still grinding through al the new observation data they have generated over this latest dimming event.  I have no idea how long it will take to sift through the data and then write up a paper so still a mystery.

Are we there Yet ? Or did I miss the Teleport Off ramp?

Yh I see this on a TV program.. Very thought provoking indeed. You can really get lost in the possibilities that is probably out there. And some doughnut thinks we could be alone? Hahaha

I think Mr. Scott was stuck in a transporter loop on the surface of this Dyson sphere, apparently crashing his shuttle while solving the enigma of Doc Browns flux capacitor causing Parkinsons. This temporarily pulsed the plasma output and resulted in an out of phase time fractal and the lights at Grandmas house blinked twice.

KIC 8462852 began dimming again several days ago, reaching a level of nearly minus 2 percent. The dimmed state continues at this time. Together with the similarly-sized dip in light output in May, these may indicate larger dips to come. This is how the star has sometimes behaved in the past.

We have a tentative evaluation of the character of the light from the star, when it dims. This indicates that it appears slightly dimmer in the shorter wavelengths, but not enough to be due to dusty debris in that star system. More precise determinations should be possible, when a larger dip occurs.

Have scientists considered that a portion of the light from this star could be manipulated in a scientific effort to bend light?

Of course not.

Certainly a tantalizing and thought provoking observation, but given the distance involved and the current penchant for exploration of space being accomplished in our generation by nothing more than long range fuzzy telescopes and light dimming observations, I think this one will be speculated on and never truly solved alas :(

I can bend light with a glass of water. I don't need a megastructure to do it.

I can do it with a mirror or fibre optic cable.

We must be advanced aliens then ?

That would be a small portion of the sun indeed. But what about a large portion of the sun? If more sun could be reflected away from our world and directed toward mars we might be slapping two birds with one stone. On the science fiction side if a large portion of sunlight could be redirected from a strategic area of space it might play havoc with a enemies navigation systems. If you could direct a larger portion of light in a way where it would be noticed by someone you might be sending a big HELP signal.

They are saying due to the data that it's more likely to be solid material blocking the light rather than gas and dust. Don't know if that increases the possibility of aliens though?

Assuming that this claim can be confirmed, it would tend to increase the likelihood that Extraterrestrial Intelligence is the cause of the star's dimming. Boyajian's Star has intermittently dimmed by up to 22 percent. Anything over about one percent is very probably too great to be explained by the effects of a planet. Solid objects larger than planets could very well be large, relatively thin artificial structures, in orbit of this star, presumably intended to collect its energy for use.

Could you, please, cite the source of the report about data suggesting that  solid material is blocking the star's light? Thanks.

Ripley: Ash, that transmission... Mother's deciphered part of it. It doesn't look like an S.O.S.

Ash: What is it, then?

Ripley: Well, I... it looks like a warning. I'm gonna go out after them.

Ash: What's the point? I mean by the-the time it takes to get there, you'll... they'll know if it's a warning or not, yes?

Which is more likely, clouds of gas and dust blocking our view or a gigantic alien megastructure?

So where is the disinformation here ?

Saying "I don't know" isn't disinformation, it's something known as honesty.

What they've done is make a cool announcement and then did the scientifically honest thing, admitted they didn't know what it was, opened up a long running investigation, and have suggested some intriguing possibilities for the phenomenon.

Where's the disinformation? The fact that they're not telling everyone "OMG it's aliens!"?

Can you explain what your actual problem is with what astronomers are saying about this star?  I don't get it.

My problem is governments and NASA have a history of lies and disinformation they cover up they play things down there devious.and I have no problem with astronomers  at all never said I did so I don't know we're you got that from lol.wierdo! Also I never mentioned aliens so I dunno what your going on about your entire message makes no sense.seems like your just some angry guy looking to bait someone into an argument.:)

Did you know the Earth is flat and hollow? 911 was actually an insurance scam using controlled explosions. Contrails? Pah! Chemtrails more like. There were no dinosaurs. We didn't land on the moon. They know about ancient and recent visitation by aliens. Mars rovers are in Canada.

Did I get them all? BTW I sell rabbit holes if you need a few more.
