Challenging U.S. Foreign Policy

Yamato

Recommended Posts

We have a history of attacking and invading sovereign states with no permission from their citizens or governments. We act shocked when other countries engage in military actions in countries where their leaders ask them to do so. Assad offered an invitation to Putin before Russia started its campaign against varied groups that threatened his regime. We decided to overthrow the elected(?) government of a sovereign state. Assad is no angel or saint, but he's better than the alternatives. A secular dictator beats a religious theocrat every time in states like Syria. We should know this by now. Perhaps our leaders do, but maybe they don't even *want* stability in the Middle East.

Donald Trump said he looked at the people over there and said Assad is the best. Republicans?

Assad is intelligent. Speaks multiple languages including English. Is clean-shaven with no fundie-beard. Dresses in a suit and tie and wears them better than most US politicians. Democrats? What's the problem? Show me your boy over there. Your glorious leaders's been bombing the place for over a year now....made any friends yet?

Saddam Hussein was an evil tyrant, but Iraq was in better shape before he was ousted and executed. There was more order in the country, and it balanced power, in the region, with Iran. There definitely was more stability in the region, and there were fewer acts of terrorism. We learned so much from this debacle that we overthrew Quadaffi.

The protection screen play we ran for ISIS as soon as the Russian strikes started provide further proof to the nonsense our policy really is. "They're not bombing ISIS!" What a bunch of delirious boobs. I just had the great displeasure of hearing Fox News Channel still reporting in late 2014 that Assad crossed the Red Line and Obama sat and did nothing. Youtube Autoplay Greta van Susteren. Of course reality is that the Obama's air strikes had already begun and the Red Line had never been crossed, but way to get it dead wrong on all counts, Fox News.

And now every time I've tried to engage anyone smacking of R, or research any of our illustrious or wannabe R leaders, for a sign of what they'd rather have Obama do, in Ukraine or in Syria, and I was met with a sea of crickets. Lindsey Graham and John McCain know. Other Republicans speak vapidly of "strong leadership". Who was it who at least weighed in recently with some words "I'd tell Putin I'm going to fly wherever I want whenever I want." Okay where's that? Fighting the evil Shiites In Syria and Iraq? I would tell our partisan friends to stop acting like they disagree with Obama about something and just be honest. Obama never dropped a bomb that the Republican party could condemn. It took Vladimir Putin for that. This isn't true of Democrats the moment someone from the other party is in the White House. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the country will do better on foreign policy with an R in charge. Because if not, nobody is anti-war. Democrats will learn (or perhaps get their heads screwed back on straight) I'm sorry to say, by losing. If the partisanship is so much more important than the policy, the policy must not be that important.

Here's another revelation regarding our foreign policy nobody talked about. Israel's Atomic Energy Commission supports the Iran deal.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2015/10/22/report-israels-atomic-agency-backs-iran-nuclear-deal/74408912/

Nevertheless, and right on time for my pre-debate predictions, Donald Trump now thinks it's a terrible deal. He thinks Barack Obama hates Israel. Fine, so long as Israel's Atomic Energy Commission hates Israel.

We're giving away billions every year to who we hate just because we can. Imagine how much we must hate Australia and Switzerland. We're so hateful, shame on us. Here I thought we'd be glad we didn't start a war with Iran on bad intelligence.

*Rant switches On*

Where's that tsunami of truthseekers at, flooding in and saying "Gee whiz Yamato, that's the exact opposite of what I've been hearing from the pundits and the politicians on the noooz!"

So people don't really care about Israel's security then. What is the damn point of all this violence? How could we lionize Netanyahu for trying again and again to get more Americans killed in another war for Israel? Is that how to support the troops? Let's stop kidding ourselves on who we support.

US supports Saudi Arabia, on track for a banner year in Beheadings this year. Oh look, here come our politicians again to lecture us about bad Muslims.

This makes no sense. I'm referring to our alliance with them. They're behind much of the terrorism and war in the world. Yet, our leadership treat them like Canada.

Now Tom said, "Mom, wherever there's a cop beating a guy

Wherever a hungry newborn baby cries

Wherever there's a fight against the blood and hatred in the air

Look for me Mom..... I'll be there.

Wherever somebody's struggling for a place to stand

For a decent job or a helping hand

Wherever somebody's struggling to be free...

Look in their eyes Mother... you'll see me."

"You'll see me!" x8

What's gonna happen ? I don't think Isis is never gonna stop . I think the atrocities the M.eastern people been living with with so long is why they won't stop, not until everyone else experiences atrocities. That's what i think. I don't even think about religion with all this because their religion was never a hidden secret. I only know one individual for President that will change our policy , maybe two. So the banks can not wheel and deal like they have any longer. One is less bias than the other.

Is it possible to sanction Saudi Arabi , I mean they're not doing anything to help end this and they also are the main cause of it happening, those schools there. And the sons or prince men are radicals. They have to do something or cut them off , internationally. If America took the military to their faces it would probably end a flow of radicals, but it would help stop it. I don't know why we play around w/ Saudi Arabia, I wouldn't. They should of been dealt a long time ago.

I feel like converting our fuel source of dependency, by growing corn , yeah, I feel that we can create many fantastic jobs for families and end all wars.

ETA - of course we won't stop there, we will continue to do even more greater things. It will be fantastic. But everyone has to be on board. ISIS is a bit of a distraction right now.

God is a poor excuse for violence but what's our excuse? We're oil consumers? We make fun of people for their religious beliefs, and we don't think we deserve to be made fun of for ? The global warmers who conveniently ignore President Obama's policies just lost their last right to lecture the likes of me on climate change. Maybe the climate would stay the same if they looked in the mirror once in a while and started solving their problem there instead of ignoring Saudi Arabia and watching Al Gore filmstrips.

We can all drive cars that get 80mpg with an internal combustion engine, and by the way if we removed all the batteries and circuit boards and computer modules from the system it'd be a hell of a lot better for the environment than not. But we can't turn to infinite energy like magnetism and turn a crank on a three-cylinder motor every morning. We have higher standards in performance, convenience and luxury than that. It's a lot easier that Saudi females can't drive so we can sanction Iran and drive what we want.

People are so ignorant they should be in a horse and cart. That'd be closer to justice than this.

Good points Ella. I agree, I think we're going to get more of the same in ebbs and flows.

Russia is bombing Syria on the fault lines of control between Assad and ISIS rebels trying to expand Assad's territory while noting that Syria is a country under international law. You don't just go bombing it! Like some country with a political dispute with Israel can just come in and start bombing it because they want regime change. It's so ludicrous it's next to impossible to defend this crap, and just look at Republicans and I mean like 97% of them. They're always quiet as a church mouse about Obama's foreign policy. They don't know which end is up. Whatever Obama decides to do, they don't know anything about making changes. The only ones who have a clue what to do differently are the warhawk neocons like Lindsey Graham and John McCain.

I challenged a lot of neocons I worked with in 2007 to stop ignoring their best man for the job when poor John was in 6th place and firing his staff to save money, his campaign going bankrupt, flying solo on commercial jets hauling his own luggage. I didn't think that a miracle would happen and the guy would suddenly skyrocket into 1st place. It made perfect sense though, it just made sense to me before it did to them, but by that time it was too late. John had already made sweet love to his handlers, and ultimately I recognized McCain as the greater evil and so voted for Ron Paul who I had just learned about that year.

I was right that Obama wasn't good enough to vote for. He's a great man, a good family man, intelligent, charming personality and powerful orator, but his policies are terrible. More like John McCain's than not. Even Michael Moore is depressed, and a bigger critic of Obama than most Republicans btw. Obama hammers Syria harder and Republicans get brain even bigger brain farts, they don't know whether to stand up, sit down, say something, or go use the toilet again when it comes to foreign policy. They only know that they'll salute whatever turd it is their President raises up the flagpole, exactly like the D's do today.

Bernie Sanders says we have to go fight ISIS. Rand Paul says the first thing he'd do is stop arming our enemies. I think that's a real difference. Even Donald Trump actually questions some of our policies so I think it's at least plausible that Trump could change something for the better. The essence of Sanders though is using central power and socialism to solve problems and force change upon people. Using a socialistic construct like the military to solve problems outside the country would flow naturally from there. I think Sanders is too smart to agree to go fight every dumb war some Americans want him to, but if he did, it would be conducive to his style for fixing things. It would be contradictory for Rand Paul to do it so I believe he's the much better anti-war candidate. The only good one available at this point. The only real anti-war candidate the D's had to offer was Chaffee. He earned my vote in 30 seconds if his introduction speech of the first debate turned out to be true. Unfortunately I never followed up because the day I met him was the last time I ever saw him. CNN sure didn't have any further questions for him. CNN couldn't get rid of him fast enough.

But for the record Ella, I'll never criticize you for voting for Sanders because I'll be much too proud that you didn't vote for Clinton. ;)

U.S. approves $1.29 billion sale of smart bombs to Saudi Arabia

By Andrea Shalal

The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of $1.29 billion in smart bombs to Saudi Arabia to help replenish supplies used in its battle against insurgents in Yemen and air strikes against Islamic State in Syria, the Pentagon said on Monday.

The Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), which facilitates foreign arms sales, notified lawmakers on Friday that the sales had been approved, it said in a statement.

I'm hearing people say it's gonna come to Hillary & Trump ....people are saying they're not voting because of that. Hey, I think rand will also fight isis not just Bernie. The only thing about Rand that disappointed me was not wanting to tax the super rich the same as Bernie will. They need to be taxed a bit more and they need to not outsource jobs overseas and hide their money away in off shore banks. The republicans cry as if people like Bernie want to take or control their money like a commie and that's just not true.

There's blowback to that intervention. Sanders will impose prohibitive regulations onto the marketplace and companies will leave. I'm so tired of bleeding our country dry like this. Why are our corporate taxes so high? Why do we punish production??? Find the mean/median corporate tax rate in the world and peg our tax rate to that. We need to make the country business friendly or we'll never have the jobs we want. Bernie Sanders ideas like a national minimum wage will further destroy jobs. There might be a nice $15/hr wage that some people talked about, but there won't be any jobs there to pay it. So the minimum wage will be $0. Small companies everywhere will be trying to get the same amount of work done with far fewer employees, not go looking for even more employees.

High for who? Gates, Romney, Rockefeller? I'm more focused on that level of closure. ending their loop holes., making it so they can not get away with moving assets around. Maybe I'm not understanding all this. But by use of good intuition and integrity and bravery, we'd be alright.

I don't believe that the super rich are helping the economy to be strong, I never believed they ever did. They suck.

I think what you've examples is what Bernie's intentions are, I don't know where exactly Rand's intentions are , his real intentions. I wondered how min. wage increase would effect smaller businesses. I would think it would matter and I would hope that Bernie would have already considered the lesser wealth of some businesses can't afford that, wouldn't a guy like Bernie set in place standards for smaller owned companies with less wealth . I would hope so.

I don't even know if it's fair to ask if that the tax experts who oversee the Treasury dept, are able to locate all of everything being moved around , exactly who owns the federal reserves? seems like a game to them.

It would price employment right out of the market and drive unemployment through the roof. It goes straight back to affordability and prices. Wages are prices too. The higher they are the more unaffordable they become. If you're currently making $14.50/hr doing roofing work far more skilled and difficult than the guy at the McDonald's drive thru window and suddenly he's making $15/hr well you'll get a $0.50/hr raise by law and how is that "fair" by any stretch of the word? They'll have to pay the construction workers more than $15/hr if there's to be any relative scale to wages in the system that makes the least bit of sense. Small companies can't just pay huge bills to keep their employees that Bernie Sanders arbitrarily thinks they should. $15/hr might make sense in Seattle, it does not make sense in Birmingham or Detroit or New Orleans or Youngstown.

Rand's flat tax has issues too. Everyone's paying 14.5% income tax, but then the flat taxers runs back to cover their necks with replies like "Oh, well for a family of four making $80,000/yr they will pay no income tax." Really Rand? What about a family of three making $75,000? Wherever they draw their lines at, it's not going to be "fair". Eventually somebody's going to be paying the same tax rate as the super rich pay, and when it's a flat tax it doesn't take very long, and those people are getting royally screwed. I'm tired of taxation being based on whether or not I have kids, whether or not I'm married. Stop managing our behavior, stop punishing people for not making decisions govt officials prefer us to, stop discouraging bad behavior with prohibitive taxes. Taxes are supposed to be sources of revenue for government, not vehicles by which they control our behavior.

They're high for corporations:

At 35%, the United States has the highest nominal top corporate tax rate in any of the world's developed economies.[1] However, the average corporate tax rate in 2011 dipped to 12.1%, its lowest level since before World War I, largely due to the great recession and a bonus depreciation tax break.[2]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_tax_in_the_United_States

What do these tax lowering Republicans have to complain about since 2011? The lowest effective rates since World War 1 under the socialist villain Obama, well, well, if they actually cared one iota about what they're always whining about, they'd approve. Why do we need a thousand pages of code to piddle away from a ridiculously high rate like 35%? Lower the rate for all US companies, throw out the code book, and get out of the way.

I've got a good flat tax rate for US innovators and manufacturers who promise to keep the production here --> 0%

When they inflate the money supply, our money pays for it in real value terms. That $1200 in your savings account gets milked. When they inflate the national debt, we're on the hook for that too. I don't know who owns the Fed other than to say that We own the Fed, we're the ones with the power to change it. We're the ones with the power to change anything. Like all great social change throughout our history, it takes real people just like you and me to suffer physically and even die to make the change happen, long before the next political puppet gets up on a podium and takes the credit for it. And we'll be dumb enough to believe the next one too, and let them take it.

Bernie Sanders has the attitude that resonates with people and rightly so, he just uses the wrong well of power to draw from. If he was some private citizen saying the kinds of things he does he'd probably be chained to a prison bed too. He's in the real protected class though, an elected government official. Their crimes never end, and they never pay for them. Richard Nixon took it about as hard as they ever do. And just like Hillary Clinton's emails, it had nothing to do with his war crimes.
