Speaking of heights and falling; One scene from a movie that is a heart-stopper and fills my veins with ice water, is the opening sequence from Cliffhanger. I almost get physically ill when I watch it. The lady there (actress Michelle Joyner) plays her role with such fear, terror - and sheer death agony - you can almost taste it. And when the last buckle breaks - and she slowly is slipping the grip, and then falls - the terror in her eyes is horrific. I've seen the movie several times and my heart stops every time... It was the mystery of the xenomorph, where it was, what it looked like that first got me. Plus the jump scares were not over done like it seem now. I think my second choice is the original Ghostbusters, while not exactly horror it is still a horror comedy. Next on my list is Carpenters The Thing I love that movie. Even though it's not a popular movie I did enjoy Event Horizon as well as Dark City, which is a great movie if you haven't seen it. And how could I forget the Evil Dead series. The movie that scared the most crap out of me is JAWS. I consider that an adventure movie more than a horror though but damn how that shark scared me when I was a little snot nosed brat. Her younger sister Callie comes to live with her as the pressure mounts to finally declare him 'dead in absentia.' As Tricia sifts through the wreckage and tries to move on with her life, Callie finds herself drawn to an ominous tunnel near the house. As she begins to link it to other mysterious disappearances, it becomes clear that Daniel's presumed death might be anything but 'natural.' The ancient force at work in the tunnel might have set its sights on Callie and Tricia ... and Daniel might be suffering a fate far worse than death in its grasp. Writer/director Flanagan pulls off an incredible feat with this film. He manages to reinvent the ghost story, then takes it to an unexpected, even creepier place. A great indie-flick that I didn't expect much from initially - but that changed. The mood and atmosphere of the movie creeps up on you, and it takes a few twist & turns you didn't expect it to go.
