I recall seeing The Blob and The Creature from the Black Lagoon as a youngster and at the time I thought they were pretty scary. I laugh now at how terrible and campy these movies were...

Another one.....Gravity.

The opening scene scares me to my core, I can't watch it without crying.

Edit: which I mentioned in a previous post, but I watched it again last week, still scary.

Speaking of heights and falling; One scene from a movie that is a heart-stopper and fills my veins with ice water, is the opening sequence from Cliffhanger. I almost get physically ill when I watch it. The lady there (actress Michelle Joyner) plays her role with such fear, terror - and sheer death agony - you can almost taste it. And when the last buckle breaks - and she slowly is slipping the grip, and then falls -  the terror in her eyes is horrific. I've seen the movie several times and my heart stops every time...

I f"""in hate heights. You wont see me climbing any mountain anytime soon, that's for sure!!!.

Well Halloween is being "re imagined" and Carpenter is on board!

I once again got disappointed about another Hellraiser as Doug Bradly is no longer pinhead and Barker still after all the stinker sequals won't fix his orginal masterpiece... <_<

I have to say that the most enjoyable horror movie to me is Alien. I still love that movie. It was the mystery of the xenomorph, where it was, what it looked like that first got me. Plus the jump scares were not over done like it seem now. I think my second choice is the original Ghostbusters, while not exactly horror it is still a horror comedy. Next on my list is Carpenters The Thing I love that movie. Even though it's not a popular movie I did enjoy Event Horizon as well as Dark City, which is a great movie if you haven't seen it. And how could I forget the Evil Dead series. "Hail to the King baby!"

I'm going to give an honorable mention to...

It probably doesn't offer anything innovative to the genre, but it's a cut above many modern horrors, especially for a sequel.

The Shining hands down. Apart from that, every well-produced paranormal horror movie gets to fall in my hands.

The new "It" is great but the "Dark Tower" unfortunately was a steaming pile of manure...i love the books and always thought they would make a great series of movies but they butchered Kings epic tale!

Hard to choose. I like all kinds of horror movies. Slasher's, hardcore gore, psychological...you name it. The movie that scared the most crap out of me is JAWS. I consider that an adventure movie more than a horror though but damn how that shark scared me when I was a little snot nosed brat. Wouldn't even sit in the bathtub for a long time after seeing that movie haha :-D

Agreed Jaws is one of the all time greats imo.

Spielbergs finest! What's weird is that no one still haven't been able to make a better shark movie. Even in this day and age they still use those stupid CGI sharks and it looks terrible

Mama is a decent horror flick. Only a pg13 so no use of nudity and torture/gore porn so I found it enjoyable.

ABSENTIA

Quote

Tricia's husband Daniel has been missing for seven years. Her younger sister Callie comes to live with her as the pressure mounts to finally declare him 'dead in absentia.' As Tricia sifts through the wreckage and tries to move on with her life, Callie finds herself drawn to an ominous tunnel near the house. As she begins to link it to other mysterious disappearances, it becomes clear that Daniel's presumed death might be anything but 'natural.' The ancient force at work in the tunnel might have set its sights on Callie and Tricia ... and Daniel might be suffering a fate far worse than death in its grasp.

Writer/director Flanagan pulls off an incredible feat with this film. He manages to reinvent the ghost story, then takes it to an unexpected, even creepier place.

A great indie-flick that I didn't expect much from initially - but that changed. The mood and atmosphere of the movie creeps up on you, and it takes a few twist & turns you didn't expect it to go. Watch it if you can.
