Russian passenger plane crash

When aircraft break up mid-air, there are any number of things indigenous to said aircraft which could cause puncture marks like that.

There's no reason to assume anything more sinister than some kind of mechanical failure.

We're talking about thousands of pieces of metal bolted together flying close to the speed of sound.

engine disintegration?

Statistically speaking ANYTIME an aircraft breaks up while at cruising altitude there is reason to assume something sinister.

I agree in this age of ISIS and suicide bombers, can't just assume just a tragic accident. Still have to wait for the facts if you can get them.

It is incredibly irresponsible for this Russian fool to categorically state that external factors (and what in the hell does that mean anyways) caused the crash when there was no communications from the jet indicating that and the black boxes have not been examined.

It seems that there is a fool contest going on. Yesterday Egypt`s PM Scherif Ismail stated that the incident was not caused

by any "irregular activities".

I am no longer expecting anything truthful here. If this was a missile, as the airline rep seems to be alluding to, then it was a large missile system with attached radar and control as a MANPAD can't reach or hit an airliner at speed at 30K feet AGL. If it was an onboard bomb then we won't know anything until the black boxes are downloaded and studied and a thorough inspection of the wreckage, by trained personnel, conducted. These statements by officials just cloud the water and harm the authorities credibility.

As yet it's all been speculation and the black boxes are still to be examined. In the meantime the bodies are being flown home.

I feel for all their families waiting to ID the bodies of their loved ones, just awful.

The bodies of 144 of those killed in the crash have been flown back to the Russian city of St Petersburg, where the plane had been headed from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

A second flight with more bodies is expected to arrive in St Petersburg on Monday evening.

How? The investigation is just startng andteh black boxes haven't been downloaded yet.

Exactly. The real story won't be known until those boxes have been thoroughly investigated and it may never be revealed publicly even then. Putin is sitting with a trump card I think. He can use this to become more aggressive if he so chooses. I find it interesting that when the Malaysian jet was downed we had discreet mentions by US sources within hours that a missile had been observed. Surely in the area this occurred either we or Israel would have seen the same thing had one been used.

True enough. And this is exactly the kind of story I think Putin could use to increase the Russian presence in Syria. Choosing sides and spitting on Israel or the US may seem like fun now but when those funny shaped clouds begin to bloom no humor will be found anymore, ever.

fsb agents were caught placing explosives in building in Russia, several were blown up there, those buildings was the pretense for Chechen war, now this plane, if shot down, who would benefit from it? Russia has missiles that fly that high, close by. if the goal is high enough... ,crazy ct, right?...., or it could be flock of geese flying at 30k

It could be the russian airline blaming the russian government for an external factor

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt’s civil aviation ministry said on Tuesday there were no facts to substantiate assertions by Russian officials that the Russian airliner that crashed in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on Saturday broke up in mid-air.

But spokesman Mohamed Rahmi confirmed that no distress call had been received before the crash, which left wreckage from the Metrojet Airbus 321, carrying Russian holidaymakers back to St Petersburg from the Sinai Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, strewn over more than 3 km (2 miles) of desert.

Some have also pointed to a 2001 incident, when the Airbus 321's tail section struck the tarmac on landing, as a possible cause of structural weakness.

Faulty "tail-strike" repairs have caused at least two catastrophic crashes in the past. However, the plane had passed safety checks and its operator, Kogalymavia, owner of the Metrojet brand, has said damage from the 2001 mishap was fully repaired and could not have been a factor in the Sinai crash.

russian safety check, lol, pretty much an oxymoron. thou it did fly fine for 15 years after the incident. and the engine that pilots wife claims he complained about, even if failed at 30k, plane would still be able to land, and pilots sure would be able to radio about it and request emergency landing.

Just on the point of Russian safety check - The A321 aircraft is registered in Ireland through a leasing company, according to them safety checks where passed only this year, including stress testing. Yet if you look at the pictures of the wreckage its clear the tail section or the section from the wings back is separate from the rest of the plane. couple this with the fact passenger bodies were found 8km from the wreckage shows a break up.

this picture shows the plane has lost its rear end.

The BEA is investigating the accident and the BEA will provide the final report of the accident later on,

including a conclusion that will explain the root cause for the accident. Until then, all speculations are

just, speculations.
