Diebytheflyguy Posted December 13, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Your video link is dead. While watching clips of Bush with the PM it seemed as though Bush was just not interested in Paul Martin or Canada. American News bashing Canada. Was that not expected? DC09 Posted December 13, 2004 #9 Share Posted December 13, 2004 There has always been a certain amount of tension between Canada and the US. For the most part it's harmless stuff, kinda like a sibling rivalry. Lately some of it has gotten a bit nasty though. I think everyone should just calm down, take a deep breath. AzTide Posted December 13, 2004 #10 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Canada bashes the U.S. but that doesn't stop them from accepting our money. Besides they have all but eliminated their military because they know we can protect them. Now Canada uses the money saved on their Military to role into their socialist programs that they bash the U.S. for not having.
Stellar Posted December 13, 2004 #11 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Canada bashes the U.S. And you'll notice that those who have done so have been fired. that doesn't stop them from accepting our money. Wow, am I out of the loop? Canada is accepting the USs money? Sure, for trade and such, but donations? I havent heard of that... Besides they have all but eliminated their military because they know we can protect them. Not to mention because we're a peaceful and neutral country. We have no real enemies in this world. We have all the army we need during peacetime, but during a true war, we have whats needed. Now Canada uses the money saved on their Military to role into their socialist programs that they bash the U.S. for not having. Like the money the US spends on missile defence which it bashes Canada for not participating in?

All the money we spend on how many times we can destroy the world really hurts the U.S.
Babs Posted December 14, 2004 #13 Share Posted December 14, 2004 (edited) ...Went to Canada years ago_ several times_ Quebec and Montreal...and out in the wilderness a bit. Crossing the border was always a let down because the Canadian border police or guards didn't like Americans_ and let it show. Talking to the Canadians they were a very gentle people, polite and well-mannered. They are very tame compared to Americans. Later, back in the states a debate or discussion was going on about Canadians and Americans. The consensus was that Canadians didn't like Americans because of their aggressiveness and materialism.... and oh, they thought that we were violent. (late 80's- early 90's) I liked the Canadians, but the border patrol was a real disappoinment. Because of them and the propaganda, I don't think too highly of Canada. The patrol was so off-putting when you were coming into Canada, then they were so, obviously, happy when you left, that it made a lasting impression. The first and last person you see makes a big impression. It was obvious they didn't want Americans in their country, though they wanted our money... girty1600 Posted December 14, 2004 #14 Share Posted December 14, 2004 Yeah, well our media in the US is insane. The media personnel make police officer look like criminals and criminals like heros. It's all about ratings and sponsors controversy, period! Americans like the Canadians, even if they don't like us back sometimes. The US media does not represent the American public or speak on our behalf.

kikuchiyo Posted December 14, 2004 #18 Share Posted December 14, 2004 (edited) Anti-"everything" All around the world we can find anti-something, from segregation to "those damn frogs" are all example of anti-something. Some can be harmless like poking fun of "the LXXXX America" but some can be quite aggressive (do i need to write an example), but "anti" is on a personal level not a raging National Status. One individual is really meaningless but if you get a roaring mob that's where the media jump in and expend the problem. $ Economically speaking Canada will use american cash because it has a international "value", yet Canada used it's "weak" cash to be able to export with more ease. If the Canadian Dollar goes above the American we wouldn't be able to exchange with the same ease. So inflate my follow....inflate. Question of culture As the internet grows bigger, it will reach people in a personal way giving them information on other countries. The information is sometimes corrupted (By Prejudice, missinfomation, ...), that corrupted information will create an other strand of "Anti", the only true way to experience a culture is to actually be there in the country within the mass it self. Understanding a culture through music is also a great way to learn, bands like Molotov will show how hard it is to be a mexican in the US, Johnny Cash shows a piece of americana that Jessica Simpson will never show. Anti-isms are really huge "communication lapsus". Edited December 14, 2004 by kikuchiyo
