I must admit Im mad about robots! Ive kept my eye on Atlas's progress for a while now, just keeps getting better!

He's behind you! Watch Google's new Atlas robot stand up on its own up after getting knocked down by giant stick in amazing video

New version of robot 'designed to operate outdoors and inside buildings'

Uses sensors in its body and legs to balance and LIDAR and stereo sensors in its head to avoid obstacles

Atlas is about 5' 9" tall (about a head shorter than the original Atlas) and weighs 180 lbs

I was watching this earlier.

You know that the robot has now stored in its memory the human with the hockey stick keeping it from lifting the box. Pretty soon, it will realize that in order to lift the box more efficiently, it must first eliminate the human...

And there was me thinking how impressive - the balance keeping etc - but you may be right..............we're all doomed 😳

Despite not falling it's walk and thought process.

Yeah, when the human pushed Atlas to the ground, Atlas's hesitation (though normal for it's current electronics) kind-of seemed to me that it was considering a "beat-down" on the human for the continued grief. :w00t:

EDIT: Pretty soon we might need a "robot emoticon" option here.

If you're worried about them running amok, seems like they could be defeated (or at least slowed down) with a simple tangling device like a bolas. Once down, use the old 16 pound sledgehammer.

I was reading this this morning and I wondered if we could be very far from....

This is a DARPA project after all, right?

Human: I'm pushing you over for tech science, falling on your face, take THAT Atlas. Hahahahhhaaaa!!!!

Atlas: ... I don't like you.

Human: What are you going to do about it, huh?

Atlas: Give me a gun.

Wow, far from replacing humans, very far.

And futur people prediction telling us that we would be replaced by those.....

As stupid as people saying gas price will double, triple in 2-3 years.....

Why the heck is it so large and clumsy but Asimo isn't?

still way behind Asimo

.

Based on the OP link, which seems to illustrate how difficult some tasks remain for robots, I am not convinced Asimo is as autonomous as he appears. Someone must be controlling it via wireless.

Got something that proves he is for real?

Still not seeing the proof someone is not controlling it.

That it is thinking for itself and making it's own decisions independent of someone behind the curtain pulling the strings via wi-fi.

well I gave you links to its homepage and even a wiki, both state autonomous.....

but hey thats not to say he hasnt had a shedload of pre programming...

Give these things time and they could well have a huge A-I, now thats the scary part, not running and walking, which, as I showed in the above vids, even kid size robot TOYS can do

Now seeder, you know full well that around here youtube videos and wiki links mean jack squat when it comes to proving or even being evidence of anything.

I want to believe, but there is not yet any proof Asimo is all it is touted to be.
