Russian billionaire: 'I will live forever'

I wonder what he hopes to transfer using this method.

Just because "information" might be partially transferred, what about the dynamics of emotion?

How does one transfer that?

Though I applaud the effort I do not see how the complex "he" can be transferred.

you can't, emotion comes from the soul.

The soul is not a demonstrably real thing, so you can't possibly know that. Attempting to upload human consciousness is an interesting endeavour specifically because we don't know whether we are just meat, or if there is something unique to our minds and consciousness. Uploaded consciousnesses would begin to answer these kind of questions, which is precisely why we need to do such trials.

we are already robots, with a computer code built in.

You are objectively wrong, considering we are made of meat and reproduce biologically. But hey, great idea.

which would mean that all flesh are robots. our dna is a ternary computer code. everything to make a human is written in that code.

No. We're biological entities, not robots. Robots are created and programmable. Humans were not created, we evolved over millions of years.

The only type of 'immortality' that we could possible hope to achieve is through either genetic engineering or cybernetic. The problem with cybernetics is power supply and keeping the internal organs fully functional, which basically is just living on life support without a functional body. It maybe possible to mentally remote control a robotic body so that you have a 'life'. A problem with consciousness transfer is that it's just a copy of your personality. Even if this copy could be 'installed' into a new cloned body it wouldn't be you. It would be someone who looks like you and has your memories but isn't you.

I think we've had this discussion once before here.

Like I said in my above post the idea of the survival of consciousness has always fascinated me, and I also had the same question. Would this robot with all your memories be just a highly elaborate copy of you, or would it be a real "New You" in a different body?

And again the political ramifications. Who would control this technology? If you really think out of the box on the potential politics of this , it gets scary.

He wants to live forever? In a machine?

Haha nothing lasts forever, everything degrades eventually, he just has to hope he doesn't get a blue screen LOL

what a way to spend eternity....deaf, ,blind, unable to talk....no way to feel anything...no way to move, no way to hold a person, or spend time with them...smell them...and just being eternally terrified of a power cut which would/could.... mean death....

,

The end of porn as we know it!

Information alone is a "database"

Information with emotion is a "perspective"

I can not "sense" myself without being in my current human body.

Thinking that "sense of individuality" is highly dependent on all the bizarre and wonderful chemical interactions that makes me "me" I don't know how this can be duplicated in a purely electronic machine.

In my experience, particularly with science and technology, it has never been a good idea to say "it's not going to work... ever". There have been people who adamantly claimed that AI would never be able to beat a Go player due to the game's complexity, however Google's AI DeepMind has defeated a world champion of the world's most complex game 4-1... just recently. This happened ten years before it was "supposed to". People said "It's not going to happen", "It's not going to work"... and it did.

I'll have to agree with Lilly. I don't think it's going to work because I believe his philosophical views of consciousness are mistaken. He seems to equate our consciousness with mere physical brain processess... and nothing more. It's the materialism worldview popular with some A.I. proponents positing that humans themselves are a kind of biological robots. That is where I fundamentally disagree. They might succeed at creating a copy of you, but it's never going to be you.

By that logic you've just declared all lifeforms robots. If that's the route you want to go, you have fun there buddy, but you're wrong. Robots and biological lifeforms are different.

Mind Cloning, right?

The question is can you switch between your duplicates or all of them becomes independent existences?

The latter means you failed to achieve eternal life.

By saying that humans are robots is like saying an Apple is an Orange just because both are fruits.
