Still Waters

Recommended Posts

A British tourist who tried to swim to a cruise ship after it left without her has been rescued from the Atlantic by fishermen.

The 65-year-old woman was found shivering and clinging to her handbag 500 metres out to sea.

She had left the Marco Polo cruise ship in the port of Funchal, in Portugal's Madeira region, after a row with her husband.

She decided to take a flight home, but changed her mind at the last moment.

When she returned to the port she saw the ship on the horizon - and threw herself into the water to try to swim to it.

I guess she never understood the old sayings like. "That ship has sailed." Or "Missed the boat.".

Sounds like neither of them should go anywhere unchaperoned. I wonder if her husband missed her during the flight home?

When trimming the gene pool just can't get it right. 65 years it's been trying. She must've swam in circles only having one hand.

But she only got 500 meters out. Someone should have seen here sooner.

This reminds me of the time when an European tourist was stuck up a tree for hours and the locals were just scratching their heads wondering what she was doing up there, everyone who noticed her early in the day just brushed it off as something those crazy tourists do until a kind little old lady asked and was told she couldn't get down after climbing so high up ... and promptly organized a rescue mission ... the tourist was too embarrassed to ask for help and was hoping someone she knows will come along and help her out ...

~ yeah ... one of those things I guess ...

I love that she hung on to her handbag the entire time. It must have been expensive but now all her old lady candy and tissues are melted.
