Strange footage has emerged online this week of a large, dark shape surfacing in the River Thames.

The peculiar video, which was uploaded on to YouTube and sent to us via e-mail, was recorded on a mobile phone by someone riding on the cable car in Greenwich, London back on March 26th.

As the Thames is fed by the sea, whales, dolphins even seals have been seen over the years

The River Thames whale was a juvenile female Northern bottlenose whale which was discovered swimming in the River Thames in central London on Friday 20 January 2006. According to the BBC, she was five metres (16 ft) long and weighed about seven tonnes (24,400 lb)

More mundane explanations could simply be some kind of rubbish illegally tipped

Ten years of public sightings show that large marine mammals are regularly found in the River Thames.

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) has received records of 2,732 animals over that period.

Seals were the most common animal seen, with many spotted around London's Canary Wharf, probably because many people spot them from its skyscrapers.

In addition, the public reported 444 porpoises and dolphins on the river, and 49 whales.

The first few seconds seriously triggered my fear of heights, so I'll be seeing you in court.

Otherwise, it's a damn whale!

Why do people hold their phones vertically when filming or taking photos? All you get is a sliver of a video. Horizontal FTW!!

Seems like some kind of marine mammal. Nothing sketchy.

Turn the phone ... turn the phone ... turn the phone ...

Needless to say, I did not see anything in the video.

Kinda looked like a whale, given the size, but really, it could have been freak waves, or even CGI.

A whale, horrified at the sight of the Millennium Dome submerges so it can't be seen.

If you look closely, you can see some flippers but they looked to small for something that size so I'm guessing it's a pod of Orca or its a fake.

I am always amazed by the people who automatically assume every video or photo posted on this site that show "something" is a fake. Why do you narrow minded people even visit this site and read the stories? Open up your mind. It could be anything, i agree, but because it shows "something" doesn't make it a fake.

Those people usually state they are hoping for the one time they are wrong. :tu:

Myself, I try to examine each threat/story/link separately and decide if it is fake or real. It just so happens that the vast majority are fake, manipulated, or misidentified.

I'm scared, the book of revelations says that strange creatures will be seen in the end times.

Not as scary as Donald Trump's hair ! :-)

I live in nyc, and i constantly see artifacts like this in the hudson and i can tell you that it is garbage caught in the current, possibly a tree or man made debris, when a river as wide as the thames or hudson narrows down it can create a bottleneck of debris along with stronger currents which can bottom up things from the riverbed.
