Anomalocaris Posted June 14, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2016 Superman Is the Best Superhero of All Time, Study Says Quote Students at the University of Leicester (via Gizmodo) have unveiled the results of a seven-year study into the age-old superhero question, and the answer is clear: Superman is the best-equipped superhero of all time. Using calculations to explain the feasibility of the powers behind the most famous superheroes in comic book history, Superman came out ahead thanks to a calculated stored solar energy output of 7.07×105 Joules per second for his “Super Flare” attack. Moreover, the higher muscle density gives him a major leg up against most other superhéroes. See more at Collider
+OverSword Posted June 14, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2016 It says best equipped superhero not best superhero. And really he's one of the worst because he is too strong in both the physical sense and the moral sense. Nobody can beat him and he's so pure of heart that he's a boring character.

Thorvir Posted June 15, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 15, 2016 Superman is the best of all time.... Well, he's certainly a figure that everyone should aspire to be like. As for power levels, I'm sure the Scarlet Witch has a couple of words to say to Mr. Superman: "No more kryptonians..." And that'll be it for Supes. Sir Wearer of Hats Posted June 15, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 15, 2016 Best equipped, yes. Because he's, in effect, a God.

But still for those who don't! I know that, but it's irrelevant. The OP is talking about Superman being the best superhero in general, that includes all realities, not just DC. And Scarlet Witch could then just say: "No more DC universes..." I don't disagree that Superman can outfight just about any superhero that isn't prepared for what he brings, but he's not unbeatable (examples include Darkseid, Shazaam, Doomsday, even Batman on occassion can take him). He is a destructive force of nature, akin to a god, but he's not the only one, and luckily he's a good god.

XenoFish Posted June 25, 2016 #16 Share Posted June 25, 2016 The real problem with superman is our planets gravity. Super powers aside. Without his home worlds natural gravitational force his muscles and bones would atrophy, assuming that krypton also had a very dense atmosphere, he probably wouldn't have survived earths environmental conditions. He'd have to pull a Mr. Incredible on almost a daily basis.

There's some evidence that Kryptonians use Solar Energy to regenerate their bodies - in the relatively recent "Red Daughter of Krypton" story, Kara used bring thrown into the sun in order to purge her body of a Red Lantern ring, which basically replaces your blood with fiery rage goo and destroys your heart, leaving the ring to do all that, without the ring (or something acting as a barrier like a Green Lantern ring, or being healed by a Blue ring) reds die. Kara survived because being in the sun regenerated her.

I never liked superman. Although I did like Batman beating him down in the Frank Miller comic.
Sundew Posted June 25, 2016 #20 Share Posted June 25, 2016 (edited) Nolan's Batman trilogy was great movie fair, at least the first two, the third was good but not great. That said I think the best rendition of the character was Batman, the Animated Series. Mark Hamill made the Joker, with his maniacal laugh (some of you might not have known that, yes, Luke Skywalker also played the Joker!). Even Adam West (who's Batman nearly ruined the franchise) had an appearance as a protagonist in one episode. The animation was top notch and the series had the dark vigilante feeling. Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. did a great Alfred for the majority of the series (someone else did Alfred's first three appearances). I especially liked the portrayal of Mr. Freeze, he was made into a sympathetic character with a conscience and a sense of justice, however warped. Batman too was played as having empathy to several of his antagonists like Mr. Freeze, Clay Face and the Man-bat. Others not so much. Batman was also portrayed as more human and less "super hero" receiving injuries and flying only with the aid of a hang-glider or aircraft, not some impossible costume. If you have not seen it there are websites that have it available and it's worth a look. Edited June 25, 2016 by Sundew Better wording.

McFakename Posted June 26, 2016 #22 Share Posted June 26, 2016 Seeing as this "study" passed DC comic hero's I would like to see the Superman vs. Deadpool comic. There really is nothing Superman could do to end Deadpool but Superman doesn't try to kill his enemies for the most part... just foil their plans. Deadpool rregenerates ALWAYS and Superman can theoretically be taken out be a piece of space rock... correct me if I'm wrong please. Thanks all
