You might not be celebrating but the same can't be said about those brexiteers that rejoice before formal talks have even begun. Staying afloat shouldn't be a motivation to leave for the brexit crowd... The UK should be prospering from such an event. But we all know that won't be the case. Hence, Brexit will be an epic failure

What is this i heard on the Radio. during their News bulletin -- about the EU versus Apple. It seems the EU wants to penalise Apple for not paying tax. and owes €13 Billion - But according to Apple they have been paying tax in the Rep Ireland. Apple is domiciled in Ireland taking advantage of its competitive tax regime. Essentially the EU Commission is seeking to undermine Ireland’s low tax policy which attracts multi-nationals to invest in Ireland. - The Irish Government have said Apple have not received unfair state aid and the Irish Government along with Apple are contesting it.

This is the start of things to come from the bankrupt EU, trying to set precedent for a European wide corporation and possible personal income tax levels? what happens if Apple is forced to pay, or even if it wins the case will they and others be looking to relocate?

We all knew it was coming the EU has no money they need to raise a EU wide tax. - but one thing is for sure There will be alarm bells going off in every global corporation in the world, irrespective of where they are domiciled or listed to pay tax. - This is an area i've long hoped we can take advantage of thanks to Brexit. the EU as a collective is unable to drop corporate rates to the levels the UK can, couple this with lax regulations and we are onto a winner. - the EU as its exists loves needles regulation and cannot lower taxes.

It's time for the UK to be the beacon of light in Europe. lower corporate taxes to the lowest in Europe and the western world and subtly hint to others likely to leave the EU these countries who leave the EU can join a new age of free trade, surely there is an opportunity here for Britain to lead the way in setting up a new free Europe & Western free trade zone. Extend the hand of friendship to our Irish friends who are under attack from Brussels to join us in this new free trade club we're setting up. Only requirement to entry is a bi-lateral agreement to 100% tariff free trade both ways. No membership fees, no free movement, no pooling of sovereignty.

Its a good idea, but one for the future. But as it stands today we have to concentrate on ourselves: we'll know more come tomorrow evening. after Theresa Mays' cabinet meeting

I just read the Apple news.

I had a mental image of Br defiantly heading back to the forums to resume hostilities, only to hang his head and turn back on reading the news

Apple wont have to pay a penny ... you fellas have to ...

Today's Commission ruling that two advanced tax opinions issued by the Irish Revenue to an Apple subsidiary in 1991 and 2007 were in breach of EU state aid rules, is a landmark blow against tax avoidance by large multinational firms in Europe.

“US companies are the grandmasters of tax avoidance,” said Edward D. Kleinbard, professor at the Gould School of Law at the University of Southern California and a former chief of staff to the congressional Joint Committee on Taxation.

“Nevertheless, because of the nature of US politics,” he said according to The New York Times, the Apple case “will be framed by the US as Europe overreaching and discriminating against ‘our team.’ ”

The EC ruling may well spur significant corporate tax reform in the US for the first time in 30 years.

The Commission-ordered repayments could end up costing American taxpayers under US tax law because multinational corporations with large foreign operations, like Apple, are allowed to claim a credit against their US tax bills for any foreign taxes paid, an offset that reduces their tax payments to the US.

And this demonstrates that the stupid racist hate-filled brits made an epic mistake in brexit?

Would you like a reminder about how the Aussies treated the Aborigines if you want to condescend to others about racism?

Any which way you look at it, brexit is about receding from Europe. Pulling back is never a sign of confidence. And what makes matters worse is the UK is dependent on the good will of the EU to make brexit work. You don't need a crystal ball to see what's going to happen next...

Err... Australia was a British colony at the time most excesses were happening against the indigenous population. So technically Britain is also to blame. ;)

Really? Britain is still under the rules and norms of the EU so how can you say that all is well? Lets wait until May triggers brexit formally and then you can see just what out of Europe really means.

Apple has a 230 billion dollar hoard of cash that it has removed from its home country, America, so that it can't be taxed. It has moved its headquarters to Ireland to avoid tax. If you're somehow insinuating that the future of GB is in being a tax haven then your living in La la land.

I don't need to live in the UK or Europe to be aware and informed about a topic.

Here's an informative article that you should read.

Those who fought for Democracy in WWII would roll over if they knew they had given their lives for Merkel/policy today...It is now apparent that there is a concerted effort by globalists to remove borders, create a 1 world government...gsoros

I do think the EU isn't doing itself any favors by demanding back taxes that were not agreed upon at the time? Isn't that like going back and blaming Reagan for the 2008 crash...? Oh, wait, the liberals did just that....

Still, it is a horrible policy, but perhaps they don't have any choices left. The member nations are all edging toward bankruptcy, and I'm sure a Brexit generated recession isn't going to help at all. In order to hand out money, the EU has to somehow acquire money, after all....

This is exactly the point that the Brexiteers were always making. Country X, Y or Z might get 15 billion Euros from the EU every year, but they'll often have to pay 20 billion. All these recent entrants to the EU that see it merely as a benevolent institution that's an unlimited source of money don't really seem to have grasped that.

Why are you so eager to see the racist, hate-filled bigoted little Brits suffer so much, as you're so cheerfully looking forward to? why are you such an enthusiast for the EU? Does your hatred for the racist, bigoted, hate-filled stupid little Brits come from your love for the EU, and your incomprehension that anyone might be so stupid as to want to be rid of such a benevolent institution, or do you love the EU because you hate the hate-filled, bigoted, imbecilic little Brits?

You're the only one that is mentioning hate-filled bigotry not me... and you do so cause ya'll just assume that its hideously unfair for anyone to point out that collectively the UK can be wrong. Imagine that! Not everyone is gonna just agree with you all the time cause you live in the UK.

Loved how the remainiacs cried in their beer after the vote for the lost opportunities for young people if we left the E.U. !!!

Did they not research the unemployment figures amongst young people within the E.U.?

Even more great NEWS today.

I wonder how many of the Remainers are now starting to realise we are Leaving the EU. and do you know what its not the end of the world.

Theresa May tells ministers UK must make success of Brexit

British Prime Minister Theresa May has said the UK must focus on the opportunities on offer outside the EU as she reiterated there would be no second referendum on Brexit.

She told them that the UK would not stay in the EU "by the back door" and she was committed to making a success of Britain's "new role" in the world.

May told ministers that the government was clear that "Brexit means Brexit".

"We must be clear that we are going to make a success of it - that means no second referendum, no attempts to sort of stay in the EU by the back door. That we are actually going to deliver on it."
