What guests would you invite to dinner + why!

I thought it would be interesting to find out who you would like to invite to dinner, i.e. to spend time with .... and WHY!!

I am thinking about 3 guests - anyone famous dead or alive (it's less interesting to read if it's people we're not familiar with - obviously we all miss those close to us, but, your choice).

The invitation would be for different evenings...unless you think they might all get on!   Here's my top 3:-

1. Oscar Wilde - why?  His genius and wit, of course!

2. Bill Hicks - for his inspiring, maverick/controversial comedy.  He inspired me to get into stand up!

3. Jesus....why?  Well (not that I am a Christian) I would love to be in the presence of someone emanating such love (assuming it's true!)

Hmmm....let's see.

Well..maybe I would have Stephen Hawking because, for one, it would be awesome to listen to his ideas, theories and findings. He didn't let his mind deteriorate just because a condition rendered his body inoperable.

Neil DeGrasse because I find his viewpoint to be refreshing and sober. I may not always agree with his veiw points but he sees things in a manner that is relatively unclouded by philosophies and focuses on reality and facts.

I will have to think about the third one though.

Jim Morrison - Because I find him to be quite entertaining and very fascinating as a person with a great intelligence.

Ozzy Osbourne - Just to try to figure out what he is saying, It would be quite funny.

Evalion - Who is said to be the most racist girl on youtube - I find her quite interesting.

Hitler - I would want to see this man in person to ask what he had in mind in case he had won.

Buddha - I would like to know what kind of person he was said by his own words instead of words from writers of books.

Bruce Lee - To listen to his martial arts philosophy.

Did you know that, here in the UK, I heard that the most popular voice for satnav is Ozzy!  blink.gif

Maybe you could know what kind of person Buddha was just by being in his presence....i.e. feeling his vibe might well be enough. color.gif

Kurt Vonnegut Jr - it is always nice to bask in whit soaked charm

Septimius Severus - to get his opinions on the murder of Didius Julianus

The Big Bad Wolf - an anthropomorphic cross-dressing wolf who got to eat an entire person by himself and then just spend the entire day lazing around the house, vegging out and sleeping, seems like an interesting guy to have a chat with

I wouldn't want to spend time with anyone who would have me as a guest...

boom-tish and apologies to Groucho, or who ever first used that joke..

but if I had to choose:

Carl Sagan (well, obviously.. and preferably while .. er.. smoking...)

Colin Hay (used to front Men At Work, is a highly under-appreciated guitarist/singer, and is just a very funny storyteller and likable bloke)

Tom Cruise (or John Travolta) (so I can hear the excuses for joining Scientology and find out why a really good actor would make such an unbelievably stupid choice)

Benedict Cumberbatch (because he is .. well, he's Benedict Cumberbatch!)

Not available in my country - possibly just as well from reading that!  Anyway, I find not only his acting but also his persona and sense of humour when interviewed quite fascinating - the Sherlock series is just a tour de force.

  • 2 weeks later...

Karl Pilkington - Because he's hilarious and I'm a fan of his

Historian Suzannah Lipscomb - Because she's intelligent AND beautiful; she can tell us all about the Tudors and then I can shag her afterwards

Nigel Farage - My political hero

Helen of Annoy(UM member, currently having a break), because she's very funny and her humour is completely unique, but also she is intelligent with it. I would like to spend an evening with her away from the madness that is UM(at times!).

Jon Cryer(actor in 'Two and a Half Men'), because his comic timing and facial expressions are perfect ..... they suggest to me there's more to him than meets the eye. I think he would be interesting to spend time with.

Martin Luther King. I would like to ask him if he would have handled his stance against racism and apartheid differently ...... with hindsight. Although perhaps he wouldn't want to talk 'shop' at a social gathering!

That's a good one. I must admit though I'm curious about what you'd expect him to say?

Mine would be a thylacine themed soirée. I'd have Arthur and Allison Reid from Hobart Zoo, and Eric Guiler late of the University of Tasmania. So I could ask them all the questions that have come up since the days when there was someone left alive to answer them.
