Tens of Thousands of Kinder Surprise Eggs Washed Up on a German Beach

The Kinder Surprise, also known as the Kinder egg, combines candy and a prize, which has made it a kind of cult favorite around the world, selling billions during its over 40-year history. But that didn't stop Germans from being surprised when tens of thousands of Kinder eggs washed up on the shore of a small island this week.

Deutsche Welle reports that Langeoog, which is located on the Germany-Netherlands border along the North Sea, became the site of an unexpected egg invasion after a storm called Axel buffeted the north of Germany. The storm caused flooding in coastal areas, but in Langeoog it also brought a surge of Kinder eggs that originated from a Danish freight container, which had lost its content in the maelstrom.

Makes a change from dead fish washing up.

The kids had fun too -

Good thing it didn't happen here in the U.S or the police and swat teams would be all over it and confiscating them since they are banned.

At least over there the kids had fun and got free goodies.

Never an environmental effort to keep beaches clean from plastic and wastes has been so quick and effective.

I wonder why.

What?

Banned meaning that they are prohibited?

Why specifically?

You lot are really quite odd.

ETA: I've read the full article now, where it says why.

what U.S. Customs calls a “choking and aspiration hazard” for young children

And that's why they have written on them "do not give to children under 3 years old".

I confirm, you lot are not only odd, but quite sad as well.

Yes they're prohibited. Non-food items are not allowed to be placed inside foods (but only if the item is not visible from the outside, such as the Kinder surprise toys). If objects are placed inside food items, they have to be at least partially visible. The rationale being that it would otherwise be a choking hazard.

Thank you for the Clairefication!

I will avoid writing what I think, because I understand it could be offensive for some of you.
