UM-Bot Posted January 12, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2017 An eerily realistic robot designed to emulate a human woman has been turning heads this week in China. http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/news/302673/female-jia-jia-android-impresses-in-shanghai
+OverSword Posted January 12, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2017 They are easily impressed. My phone talks too.
pallidin Posted January 12, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2017 (edited) Without going into so many words, "replace a wife" seems the thrust of this endeavor. Edited January 12, 2017 by pallidin

Mark56 Posted January 12, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2017 This all really harps back to the movie "The Stepford Wives". I really think that technology is coming. The original movie was in 1975. They did a remake in 2004. Worth watching, very thought-provoking'

Buzz_Light_Year Posted January 12, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 12, 2017 Not bad! But can she get a cold beer from the ice box and make me a sammich.
Tatetopa Posted January 13, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2017 Maybe you are on to something pallidin. With the one child policy and preferential female abortions, there is a shortage of marriageable females, especially those that want to be poor and live in the country. DieChecker Posted January 13, 2017 #9 Share Posted January 13, 2017 I tend to agree with "creepy".... The video on the UM news page doesn't work anymore.

Hartmut Posted January 13, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2017 Remember the very first 'clunky' mobile phone and what it could, or rather could not do - compared to what a 'smart mobile phone' looks and can do at present ? ? ? She may be a bit weird and stiff now, but in about 10 years from now she will be near indistinguishable from real humans (and much prettier too!)

jps Posted January 13, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 13, 2017 When these robots become self-aware and want to join these UM forums, how are they going to get past the registration security?
brlesq1 Posted January 19, 2017 #14 Share Posted January 19, 2017 A little stiff, but definitely cool. When they start making them to do housework, I'm first in line!
psyche101 Posted January 20, 2017 #15 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Still clunky isn't it. When she turns her head there is that one speed smooth motions followed by an abrupt stop, do these developers know what limit switches and variable speed drives are? Seems to still be a basic attempt with a more realistic skin. Can tell the weather? So can a Fridge these days. Pffft. I think they should pay me an exorbitant amount of money to join the design team.
