seeder Posted February 12, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) Quote Elusive and poorly understood blue jet lightning, which shoots upwards from the tops of thunderstorms towards space, has been captured on film in unprecedented detail by astronauts at the International Space Station. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/iss-rare-blue-jet-lightning-that-shoots-upwards-into-space-filmed-amazing-detail-1605874 Edited February 12, 2017 by Saru Updated to a better source link for use on front page news item
Drusella Posted February 12, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2017 Looks like a coronal discharge. I wonder if something like that has been seen from the surface or airborne? Definitely interesting, and awesome.
Awesome Donkey Posted February 13, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2017 (edited) Yes, it can be seen from the ground and airborne if your eyes are adjusted to the dark, and you're not in a bright place (like a city). Looks to me there's a few blue starters there too, in addition to a couple blue jets themselves.
