Still Waters Posted March 7, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2017 True´s beaked whales, an elusive and little-studied mammal, have been captured on video for the first time, researchers said Tuesday, helping to flesh out a sketchy species record. The 46 seconds of footage was obtained off Pico Island in the North Atlantic by members of an educational expedition on a field trip, they wrote in the journal PeerJ. A trio of whales "surfaced and milled near a drifting small inflatable boat for about 10 minutes, breathing every 9.7 seconds on average," said the report. "This allowed the observers to film the animals underwater, providing high-quality images for species identification." https://www.geo.tv/latest/133522-Rare-beaked-whale-captured-on-video-for-first-time
glorybebe Posted March 7, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2017 Beautiful. Funny how little they know about an animal with so much technology available today. Just shows how large the ocean is and how much is possibly still out there undiscovered.
MJNYC Posted March 7, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 7, 2017 Thank God they were researchers and not whalers. Whaling must be stopped.

They seemed to survived that.
Silent Trinity Posted March 8, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 8, 2017 very majestic, and wonderful how they have endured in such relative obscurity....One wonders how many other species have remained hidden in the enigmatic depths of our oceans.
