US Marines Deploy Pigeons

As many as 175 pigeons were recently distributed to United States Marines helping to carry out Operation Iraqi Freedom to provide early warning of an attack with one or more chemical and/or biological agents.

"They're an extra sensor," said Marine Staff Sergeant Dan Wallace. "I (have) sensors that cost $12,000 and birds that cost $60 each, and I place just as much trust in the birds as the sensors.

$60 bucks for a pigeon? That is insane. Any major city in America surely has scores of these things hanging around, why not take some of them?
