<bleeding_heart> Posted January 1, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2005 Earlier today, Japan announced a $500 million contribution to relief efforts for earthquake victims in South Asia. Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said that Japan would increase its help for these countries and international aid organizations. Koizumi is ready to participate in the aid conference that will be held in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, on January 6. So far, the donations from Japan for the South Asian countries hit by the earthquake and tsunami has reached $30 million. Source

AztecInca Posted January 2, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2005 Now all the other major countries should match that, for us to make any sort of a difference in this time of crisis!
Erikl Posted January 2, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2005 Japan! Unfortunately, I fear that except for India, the other governments will take that money into their own pockets instead of giving it to ones who really need - the poor men, women and children who lost their homes and loved ones. bathory Posted January 2, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2005 with many of these countries have quite sizeable muslim populations, anyone have any numbers on what islamic governments have given to aid? i know Saudi have given like $10 million (they must be running low on oil) and Kuwait has given a smaller amount, just a curiosity thing. Talon Posted January 2, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 2, 2005 Now all the other major countries should match that, for us to make any sort of a difference in this time of crisis! Not all countries are as rich as Japan and can't afford to equal its max donation. However 1/2 should be a possible target for the largest industrilised nations, and nothing to the largest. Japan! Japan is a cool country
