well, arguably, all a purse is is a hole you can carry.

Holes dug with hands have a rather bowl shaped appearance.

therefore when some clever clogs goes "you know Ogg, what we need is a hole but one you can carry" the shape they're going to mimic is the hole that Ogg just dug with his hands.

Call me a skeptic but this doesn't strike me as an unexplained mystery.

...

Did you check out the site's home page? Geez, the online version of a supermarket tabloid. Created not to inform, but simply to make money for those involved in writing and publishing. The real mystery is why anyone would contribute to their success.

Really I thought the scent was more like a rancid tin of oysters with a dash of turmeric?

I would think woven textile technology being so dispersed prior to historical global trade would make the better argument for Annunaki rather that a simple bag made from the woven material (cotton, linen, silk, or cordage) rather that the gadgetry one makes from the technology.

Anyone with access to The Truth(TM) would tell you the "Annunaki" smelled of ham and wet dog. Anything else is a lie perpetrated by the felines.

NO, No, no my confused friend, yes but those who smelt like ham and wet mutt are the servant class who all have the same family name Suric which means 'idiot'. The oyster scent folks were the true elite, cat fearing and feline graced Annunaki.

[  I better explain that one ,    In the film ' A  Man Went South '   ( check the trailer on youtube - a great film ! ) a man goes to the little known south islands (in Tonga )  when  he gets there, he gets involved in a fight between the easterners ( a dirty lot of turtle ****ers ... according the the westerners ) and the westerners ( a bunch of disgusting parrot ****ers - according to the easterners ) .

In north Australia, they is  old history of contact with indigenous and 'Macassins'   from indonesia.  ]

Really, I was thinking it would smell more like your very, very old can of Hormel chili (without beans) in which that Atlantean spirit lives.

In the least that would have to smell better than platypus jism.
