I was just about to look in to it when I saw this thread.

At least one police officer has been killed and another one injured in a shooting incident in central Paris, Reuters report, citing police sources. The suspected attacker was also killed, reports say.

The shooting took place on the central boulevard of Champs Elysees, local media say, citing law enforcement.

Paris has become a war-zone.

My heart goes out to the loved ones of those police officers. I really hope whomever wins the upcoming election takes care of the terrorist problem

According to the BBC report -

Quote

There is no indication yet that this was an act of terrorism but the Champs Elysees, because of its worldwide renown and its large number of visitors, has long been seen as a potential target, the BBC's Hugh Schofield reports from the French capital.

Police sources quoted by Reuters news agency say it may have been an attempted armed robbery.

Well now they've changed their report to read -

Quote

An anti-terrorist investigation has been launched.

"On the face of it, the officers were deliberately targeted," interior ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet told France's BFMTV news channel.

The latest BBC report seems to contradict the earlier one:

Policeman and attacker killed in Paris gun battle - French media

"An anti-terrorist investigation has been launched.

"On the face of it, the officers were deliberately targeted," interior ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet told France's BFMTV news channel."

Edit: Actually "update" is better than "contradiction." The BBC has an annoying habit of changing the headlines and content, but keeping the same link.

ISIS has taken credit for the attack...authorities are looking into the deceased shooters background and associates.

Paris gunman was jailed for 20 years in 2005 for attempting to kill police

The gunman who killed a police officer and injured two others in Paris had been arrested and released just weeks before for threatening police.

The first image of the suspected attacker was released today after  he was named by French media as Karim Cheurfi, 39.

The poor French seem to be the number one target in Europe. there has to be a number of reason for this, poor or lax security, policing and a community offering sanctuary which allows a network to exist. Because these lone wolves are not lone wolves, they all have connections to other individuals. The fact Belgium is linked with the terrorists who travel from Belgian territory into French to carry out the attacks. - remember the Paris attack one of the attackers fled back to Belgium and was living a normal life in the community for upto four weeks before he got caught attending his uncles funeral.

How much will French put up with, as a society they must be reaching breaking point.
