In 2008, a news website run by the American Family Association automatically filtered an article on sprinter Tyson Gay, replacing instances of "gay" with "homosexual", making his name "Tyson Homosexual".

In World War 2 general Patton was in command of the First US Army Group stationed near Dover, forcing the German to concentrate their best unit in the Calais area.

Twist: The unit never existed and was just an elaborate ruse to take attention away from the real landings in Normandy. It worked !

Captain Pugwash is a fictional pirate in children's comic strips and books created by John Ryan, and later turned into a TV series.

There is a persistent urban legend that ascribes sexually suggestive names -- such as Master Bates, Seaman Staines, and Roger (meaning "have sex with") the Cabin Boy -- to Captain Pugwash's characters, and indicating that the captain's name was an Australian slang term for oral sex.

In 1991, Ryan successfully sued two British newspapers for printing this nonsense as fact.

The tiny parasite Toxoplasma gondii can only breed sexually when in the guts of a cat. To this end, when it infects rats, it changes their behaviour to make them less scared of cats

When the US was founded there were only three federal crimes, and they are listed in the Constitution: treason, counterfeiting, and piracy. Now it’s estimated there are over 5,000 federal crimes, and that number is constantly increasing.

If you trace your family tree back 25 generations, you will have 33,554,432 direct ancestors – assuming no incest was involved.

well I don't know how likely that is. People in the old days had to make their own entertainment.
