Obama was elected in 2008 (for which we should certainly all be very grateful bearing in mind his opponent was Utterly Insane McCain) on 53 % of 58% turnout, which makes it about 30% or so (as you can see, I'm an expert in Math), while T. Blair was selected into office on a landslide of about 20% of the total electorate. The only way it could perhaps be altered to make it truly democratic is to insist that over 50% of the electorate, not just the number who actually voted, have to vote for something for it to be valid. And this would either mean making voting compulsory, which I can hardly see would be popular, or endlessly holding re-elections after re-elections until the desired result is obtained.

Our parlamentary elections have turnouts of around 85 % (last one was 85,8) and voting is not compulsory, so it can be done. I allways wonder why turnout is so low in the US ? Maybe it have something to do with having to register ? Any Danish citizen is automatically a registered voter when they turn 18 and can thus vote in the next election.
Space Commander Travis Posted September 4, 2017 #464 Share Posted September 4, 2017 Now this is quite interesting, and much more importnat than politics. The first soft toy Paddington Bear (pictured below) was created in the early 1970s by Shirley Gabrielle Clarkson as a gift to her children Joanna and Jeremy. Yes, that Jeremy Clarkson. They were 19 inches high and firmly stuffed. The bears that is, not Jeremy.

If his nose is growing, he is telling the truth, so it can't happen. If his nose will grow, he will be telling the truth, but his nose grows if he lies so it can't happen. If his nose will not grow, he is lying and it will grow but then he would be telling the truth so it can't happen. Space Commander Travis Posted September 8, 2017 #469 Share Posted September 8, 2017 I found out some interesting information about the Brazilian coffee industry today. The Brazilian covfefe industry, you say? That sounds interesting. Tell me more. Thank you. Well, apparently, down among Brazilians, coffee beans grow by the millions. By the millions, you say? So what sort of annual output would we be talking? Well, apparently they've got a zillion tons of coffee in Brazil. A zillion tonnes? Well, gosh. Would that be output per annum? Well, I suppose it would be. Anyway, there is, apparently, no tea, though. No tea at all? Well, apparently not. I think this must be by Government edict, because you also can't get cherry soda either. No cheery soda? You say? No, you see, they got to fill their quota. Oh well, you say, that's the trouble with a planned economy right there isn't it. That's socialism for you. And get this! The politician's daughterWas accused of drinking waterAnd was fined a great big fifty dollar bill They fine you for drinking water?! Well, I'm - I'm going to protest to someone. To President Trump, perhaps. I'll ask him to put Brazil on his list of places to give Freedom to when he's got a chance. Ok, you do that. The Cheery Soda industry will be grateful to you for a start. Well, let's hope so, you say, I'm on a retainer from them.
