riotboy555 Posted January 9, 2005 #101 Share Posted January 9, 2005 oh man, that was so awesome. Real punks, goths, etc, know the difference between GOOD music and BAD music. Even if that particular artist isnt in our genre of choice (self proclaimed punk here). Ashlee Simpson is just horrible. Its not about her voice, or the fact that her music is corperate bullsh*t. Its about the entertainment factor and she cannot entertain on ANY grounds other than entertaining us with how much she SUCKS. I saw her little television show. It was seriously like a train wreck. You know you shouldnt look, but you just cant help it. It made me feel like a better person. 442520[/snapback] please. punk has as much credibility nowadays as ashlee simpson does. This really cracked me up tho: do you guys remember when avril was the sensation of the year? everybody was like trying to copy her image, well, at least i did, and all of my friends did that too. now is like, avril is in the past and everybody is like trying to copy ashlee's image, wich, i think, is much better than avril's image. rofl! If the image you want is to sail into the music industry on the skirts of your older (not so talented ) sister then, by all means, idolize Ashlee Simpson. Dress like her and act like her if you feel the need. I, for one, am getting tired of seeing 12 and 13 year olds dressed like tramps and displaying the intelligence of a monkey. Little girls should have someone of substance to look up to but, they have a no-talent hack. So, so sad! I pity the people that worship that squalling twit, especially those who are not pre-teen girls.
Guest Posted January 11, 2005 #107 Share Posted January 11, 2005 I agree. Music has been getting really bad in the last 10 years.... ever since Britney Spears came out. That's when it all hit the fan, and we also got Jessica Simpson, the Spice Girls, N'Sync, 98 Degrees, Backstreet Boys, etc, etc, etc..... All this music that appealed to little girls who wanted to copy these girls' clothes. Now look at what we're stuck with.
girty1600 Posted January 11, 2005 #108 Share Posted January 11, 2005 When I was younger I used to listen to the Top 40 stations but I can't seem to do so any more. I have turned metal because it's the best music on the radio stations in my city, that and classic rock. What I really like to chill to is the weird stuff I have at home, like Phish, They Might Be Giants, The Pixies, Guster, Fountains of Wayne and Violent Femmes. They might not be played on the radio but I like that just fine.

Guest Posted January 11, 2005 #110 Share Posted January 11, 2005 Oh yes, I once loved those New Kids. But as far as I remember, they didn't spawn a whole generation of rat-tailed musicians. There was really just them, and then they all kinda faded away.

Guest Posted January 11, 2005 #114 Share Posted January 11, 2005 (edited) Ashlee Letter to Fans 10/26/2004 12:47:42 PM - by ashlee simpson Hey guys! I'm sure you all have figured out how crazy its been the last few days, but I just wanted to personally write to y'all-my true fans-and thank you for your support and love. I have decided to speak openly and honestly about what happened on snl because I want you guys to know what really happened. My acid refux started acting up and I know my real fans know that music and performing is my true passion and you support me for that....I couldn't control what happened that day. People always say things that are hurtful, and I encourage my fans to do what I do and not read what people are saying on the internet...in a couple of days everyone's attention will be on someone else. As far as me and my band are concerned...we are all a family and love each other very much-they are the best guys in the world and I wouldn't want anyone else to be with me at this time. Keep up the support...its the love my fans have shown me that makes me want to go back out there and continue to prove all the negative press wrong! Look out for me to go on tour starting in January...its gonna be awesome! I love you guys!! Ash Edited January 11, 2005 by Guest

Sweetpumper Posted January 14, 2005 #121 Share Posted January 14, 2005 Okay, here is her excuse! It's everyone else's fault, of course. What a loser. 10 bucks says she's 'spit out the bottom of the porn industry' before she's 25....: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ashlee's Deep Denial Simpson sidesteps booing blame; Plus, Ashley parties, Madonna chants, and more Jan. 12, 2005 "Ashlee Simpson is fast becoming an expert at the blame game. After her lip-synching, square-dancing meltdown on "Saturday Night Live," she was quick to fault both the band and her pesky acid reflux. Now, days after she received a resounding chorus of boos following an eardrum-shattering half-time performance at the Orange Bowl, she's once again running plays from the excuses handbook (a tome we're guessing was penned by dad Joe Simpson), and she's pointing the fickle finger of responsibility at everyone but herself. "If they didn't like the performance, and that's what it was about, then sorry to them," a deep-in-denial Ashlee pouts to MTV. "Maybe they were booing at me, maybe they were booing at the half-time show 'cause the whole thing sucked. I was facing [the Oklahoma Sooners], and I was rooting for USC, and they played a clip of it, so maybe it was that those people didn't like me. You never know. But I can't make everybody happy." As for her much-mocked, off-key rendition of "La La" (its screechy denouement of "you make me wanna scream" is forever seared in our brain), Simpson blames that old-standby -- the sound equipment. "There were no ear monitors when we went onstage," she complains. "No floor monitors. And trying to sing in a stadium where you can't hear yourself is kinda hard. My sister [Jessica] was like, 'I don't know how you just did that! I performed in stadiums, and if I didn't have my ears, I would have freaked.'" But Ashlee says her recent trials and tribulations have helped her grow as a person, and she channels both Stuart Smalley ("I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me") and a popular bumper sticker ("Mean people suck") in dismissing her troubles. "I go from having a No. 1 album ["Autobiography"] and things going great and all of a sudden something like 'SNL' happens and boom! You're faced with how mean people can be and criticizing you and stuff," she tells MTV. "But I've learned a lot about myself through all of this. It's like, I'm not perfect and I'm not going to be perfect." For now, Simpson remains unconcerned about her seemingly shaky future. "I'm still 20, and a new artist, and I will only grow," she says optimistically. "And I look forward to continuing to not listen to what one person says and making good music." Good luck with that, sweetie."
girty1600 Posted January 14, 2005 #122 Share Posted January 14, 2005 So, who is she blaming this time? When she decided to cheat a coast to coast live audience out of a real performance, she blamed her band. Has she made a statement yet explaining how her crappiness is not her fault, but the stage hands or something? 439135[/snapback] I knew it, I was just waiting for it. Hate to say it but I told ya so! I thought she would fink out but I didn't think it would be this long before she did so... And in true Ashlee form, she blames everyone but herself. Sweetpumper Posted January 15, 2005 #123 Share Posted January 15, 2005 And a bit more news...lol... (taken from Yahoo! News): But apologies are simply not enough for some music fans, who recently started circulating an online petition demanding that Simpson quit her music career posthaste. "We, the undersigned, are disgusted with Ashlee Simpson's horrible singing and hereby ask her to stop. Stop recording, touring, modeling and performing. We do not wish to see her again," the Stop Ashlee Simpson petition reads. "She cannot match the sound of her voice that can be found on her CDs, when she sings live. She simply yells the words (sometimes the wrong ones) into the mic." So far, more than 14,000 people have endorsed the sentiment. Last year, an organization called H.O.P.E offered a Ashlee Simpson CD swap, in which former Simpson fans in New York could exchange their Simpson discs for a CD of what the group calls "one of higher entertainment quality." Fluffybunny Posted January 15, 2005 #125 Share Posted January 15, 2005 (edited) If this kid could trade excuses for talent she might actually get somewhere... This from Yahoo: Is it possible 78,000 football fans at Miami's Pro Player stadium simply didn't care for Ashlee Simpson (news)'s vocal stylings when she was rounded booed during the Orange Bowl (news - web sites) halftime show? Not according to the singer. Simpson again tried to spin--if not hoedown--her way out of a national embarrassment this week by telling MTV the many reasons why she believes she was the subject of a hugely negative reaction among the football faithful watching USC and Okalahoma during the Jan. 3 BCS Championship Game. The raven-haired popster, who blamed last year's Saturday Night Live lip-synching debacle on (a) her drummer and ( a bad case of acid reflux, came up with a whole bunch of explanations for the booing this time out, and none had to do with her shrieking, voice-cracking performance. "There were no ear monitors when we went on stage," Jessica's little sis told MTV.com "And trying to sing in a stadium where you can't hear yourself is kinda hard," the 21-year old added. (specially when you cant hold a tune...in a bucket...with a lid on it)[/i]In the end, though, she did manage to soldier through a live rendition of "La La," a tune off her debut disc Autobiography. But if a bad sound system is at fault for her closing boos, what explains the jeers at the start of her performance? "I was facing the Oklahoma Sooners [which had a bigger crowd on hand], and I was rooting for USC, and they played a clip of it, so maybe it was that those people didn't like me," she postulated. The singer even offered up a strange sort of apology. "Maybe they were booing at me, maybe they were booing at the halftime show because the whole thing sucked. If they didn't like the performance, and that's what it was about, then sorry to them." But apologies are simply not enough for some music fans, who recently started circulating an online petition demanding that Simpson quit her music career posthaste. Last year, an organization called H.O.P.E offered a Ashlee Simpson CD swap, in which former Simpson fans in New York could exchange their Simpson discs for a CD of what the group calls "one of higher entertainment quality." Simpson can only hope crowds for her upcoming tour will be more sympathetic--the jaunt kicks off Feb. 18 at Los Angeles' Universal Amphitheater.
