Woman marries calf she believes to be husband

Love for animals is an important sentiment prevalent among several people across the world, but some people seem to take things to a new level. While bovines have been getting a lot of attention from people in India, a woman in Cambodia is leaving everyone behind with her affection for a calf.

74-year-old Khim Hang has married a calf who she believes to be a reincarnation of her deceased husband Tol Khut.

I wonder what would happen if she finally realizes its not actually her husband and she may be in an adulterous relationship with a calf ...

In the US, when an older person marries a younger spouse, we call it "robbing the cradle".

In India it's known as "robbing the stable".

Well damn, does this mean the Religious Reich was right all along, about where all this promiscuity was headed?

Nah, must be a cultural thing; Good ol' India and their sacred Cows....

I feel sorry for the calf, it has to wake up every morning next to her when it should be grazing in a field.

but for sure,  the woman is definately moomoo aswell as woowoo.

Still going along the same lines of logic, I wonder what the husband thinks of all this if in fact he was reincarnated ... as a Siamese cat in Dallas Texas ...

Actually I can understand this to a point as well.

This poor woman is obviously deeply entrenched in grief and sees any affectionate gesture from an animal as a sign that the critter is actually her husband.

But at the same time this is what superstitions will do to the vulnerable, compelling them to believe in fantasies because reality is often a very bitter pill to swallow. After all it is hard to be o.k with the idea that the deceased is never going to come back no matter how hard you pray or how many offerings you place in a temple.

Life can be harsh but thinking that your friend/child/spouse/family member came back as something else only adds to the pain in the long run.

I hope some of her friends will be able to help her to clear her mind so she can think rationally and let the poor calf go out and graze like normal calves tend to do.

I'm generally good with an acceptance of alternative beliefs, but an affectionate calf somehow harboring the soul of her deceased husband and of her then marrying the calf is frigging rediculous!

Edit: I guess I just don't believe in reincarnation into a lower animal, insect, tree or rock. I could be wrong, but I just don't believe it.

An interesting exercise in cultural empathy. We see people toting their Service Dogs for emotional comfort and perhaps think little of it. Is this not comparable?

Hardly.

This is actually sad. And it's all due to superstition and lack of education.

Instead of dealing with their grief, the woman and her children are clinging to a calf and making completed ***** of themselves in front of the whole world.

In the UK, we call them 'stable snatchers'.
