Well the USSR did go broke trying to play "who has the biggest army" back in the 80's.  Maybe Putin's idea is to encourage the US to follow suit.

We know they've seen our playbook.

Since this is a hot topic, and I realize many members are participating in this thread right now... I'm going to give a friendly general reminder of UM rules at this time. Not because of any misbehavior in this thread. But sometimes it's wise to remind folks about it in general..

Take time to read the site rules all members here agreed to when they signed up on UM, found here: http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/guidelines/

This area of UM also has more specific guidelines:

When posting in the news and politics boards please bear the following in mind:

  • Do not post (or link to sites containing) graphic or violent images or videos
  • Do not post hate speech, racist or racially motivated material, links, articles or views.
  • Avoid copying and pasting entire articles - only quote a snippet and then link to the rest.

Please also be aware that the current affairs boards are provided as a casual platform for the discussion of mainstream news stories. Altercations over highly sensitive issues ( such as those on the matters of race or discrimination ) are likely to result in thread closure.

Again, this is just a random friendly rules reminder :tu:

Russia has deeply involved themselves in our elections since WaterGate and before...they wield the Willing Media as a tool against the Right.

You think it is that the Media just hates Republicans and loves Democrats?

No, they are an arm of the former Soviet Empire that desperately wants to be again.   The unnamed elephant in the living room is the couch!  The Media has one agenda...MAKE RUSSIA GREAT AGAIN!

Dear lord you're persistent with your efforts. Just let him make enough rope to hang himself when he invades Venezuala or wherever rather than obsessing over these conspiracy theories in an attempt to get him driven from office.

Nah, let them continue with their pathetic hysteria, it's become kind of fun to watch.  That reminds me, I'm out of popcorn :w00t:

Im not saying the Ruskies put him in office, we know that isnt true, we know hillary was a horrible candidate whom many Obama voters just couldnt pull the lever for.

That being said though it doesnt mean that Trump didnt collude with the Russians during the election. Hell Im not even claiming trump is a puppet, I think its just as likely that Putin looked at him and went "Yup that dude willl **** up America quite nicely lets back him" or it could be as simple as like any red blooded male Putin just simply couldnt stand HIllary and wanted to see her cry on election night. Either way the evidence is mounting that there is some there there.

When the indictment(s) are issued and the trials are complete, it will be Manafort or some other team member that will have the hammer dropped on them and NONE of the "evidence" will conclusively find Trump to be culpable for any kind of collusion or conspiracy.  They will disseminate the widest possible interpretation of peripheral responsibility, of course, but real evidence of Trump colluding with a Russian government agent won't be found because it isn't THERE.  That won't matter in the slightest to you folks, though.  He will be burned at the stake because of any appearance of association, no matter how thin or nonexistent the evidence will be.  PSSST - the world can actually see what's being done here, the Progs and their media whores aren't being clever at all.  The bottom line is still the same.  Trump won't be removed from office unless his base deserts him completely.  Those who think that will eventually happen, I ask this simple question - "who else would they trust more?"

it would actually be beneficial to Venezuela's people, cuz you know they love socialism, it works so good for them lol,

You may be right, but no country likes to be invaded for their own good.  There are other ways to deal with it that are a little more subtle.

he wanted Donald to build up the armed forces - more warships, more carriers, more warplanes - so that he could absorb them all into the Russian armed forces when Trump hands them over, of course! Obvs!

Its a gamble.  Best if there is almost war but no war.  In the last cold war, we broke Russia financially as they tried to keep up.   Maybe with their oil reserves and China pushing us hard for dominance, Russia thinks they can return the favor.

His monkeys , his circus. You cant have it both ways man. You cant proclaim him alpha male and then pretend that he has no sway over the decisions his campaign made.

His base will be there, he helped to ensure that with his statements on Tuesday. The problem is his base (much like his hands :P) is tiny.

I just dont get the party over nation position Trump supporters have put themselves in, ESPECIALLY for that guy.

And Then is right. It's just not going to happen. Even if they prove something, what are they going to do? Impeachment? That's a loud dog, but it has weak teeth. It would require a large number of the GOP Senators to go along with it. Probably wouldn't happen.

We're stuck with him for 3.5 more years. We should try to make the best of it.

Well....I think most people  would like to try and make the best of this but sadly this guy and his entourage are a bunch of dysfunctional people. IMHO it's only a matter of time before he or someone else really screws up and then the **** will hit the fan...so to speak.

And talking about the Russians,....we have yet to hear exactly why people in his entourage including close relations were courting the Russians to begin  with. It;s clear they were looking for dirt on Clinton ( not exactly a pillar of virtue herself...) regarding the election.....how is that not unethical at the very least and downright stupid to boot? There's no question that some hanky panky was going on with Trump and his minions regarding the Russian connection ...but the bigger question is will it bring him down?

I doubt it will bring him down. At best the republicans might not endorse him for the next presidential election. if the next 3.5 years are anything like the last six months they will surely be having doubts.

My guess is that Flynn and Manafort fall on their swords for him.  Maybe do some time before getting pardoned and then get lucrative careers as political pundits on TV.

Could be right - except I suspect they may be pardoned before they fall on their swords :-)

Ahh but Mueller has enlisted the NY Attorney general. The President cant pardon state crimes, only federal.
