Cowboys

I believe a lot of conflict in the Wild West could have been avoided completely if cowboy architects had just made their towns big enough for everyone.

As long as nobody mentions Brokeback Mountain I'm good with all of this...

I haven't seen the film but I enjoyed the book ...... it's beautifully written. Books are better than films in that you can make the images as graphic(or not), as you like. :)

By that logic Chicago should be one of the most peaceful and violence free places in the world. Not.

A cowboy sees a guy tying up his horse in front of the saloon and calls, "Hey, are you folks gonna hang someone?"

The guy nods. "Yup. We're fixin' to hang Brown Paper Larry."

The cowboy's brow furrows. "How come he's called Brown Paper Larry?"

"Well," says the guy, "the man always wears clothes made of brown paper. Brown paper shirts. Brown paper pants. Even brown paper socks."

The cowboy ponders this for a moment, then asks, "What are ya hangin' him for?"

"Rustling."

Of course, I'm much too old to have fantasies now but when I did, they usually took place in cowboy country with a tall, skinny cowboy who always kept his Stetson on. :D

^ LMAO

Did you hear the one about:

Three cowboys
of the world are sitting
around camp talking about how tough they were
and the tales kept
getting bigger and bigger.
The cowboy from Australia says, "I wrestled a
200 pound crocodile and
may it cry like a baby."

The Cowboy
from Brazil shakes his head and says, "I killed a 400 pound
steer
with my bare hands."

The Cowboy from Texas just smiled and kept
stirring the campfire with
his leg.

Cowboys are an urban fantasy first propagated  by dime novelists and lurid magazines, then Hollywood. Real cowboys were cattle herders, of every stripe and color, mostly the dregs of society who couldn't find any other work. They worked hard, suffered great deprivation and were poorly paid. "Cowboy" was a term of derision and contempt. Not everyone who rode a horse packing a six shooter and a rifle was a cowboy. Most would have taken offense being called one.

While we're on the subject

One day the Lone Ranger and Tonto are riding in a canyon, and suddenly they are completely surrounded and cut off by angry natives.

The Lone Ranger turns to Tonto and says, "Well, this looks like the end for us, old friend."

Tonto replies, "What you mean by 'us,' paleface?"

If you want to see how "cowboys and Indians" really interacted, look up Kit Carson and what he did at the behest of the government, terrorizing and subjugating the Navajo and forcing them onto a reservation.
