Thanks

I'm finding out several people in the circle of my family's friends were there too.

My son said his friend was shot twice, once in the head and his girlfriend eight times. Both have survived.

How is your son doing? He has to be on an emotional rollercoaster.

Brother: Las Vegas gunman was wealthy real-estate investor

MESQUITE, Nev. (AP) — Stephen Paddock lived in a tidy Nevada retirement community where the amenities include golf, tennis and bocce. He was a multimillionaire real-estate investor, recently shipped his 90-year-old mother a walker and liked to travel to Las Vegas to play high-stakes video poker.

Nothing in his background suggests why he would have been on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino with at least 17 guns on Sunday night, raining an unparalleled slaughter upon an outdoor country music festival below.

Evil personified. I'm dying to know what this guy's motive was. My heart is with the victims. Just wow.

Does anyone else get the feeling there was more than one shooter?

Aztek posted a story in which a woman said that the concert-goers were going to die. At the very least, it could be that at least one other person had some knowledge about this. That's assuming that the article is accurate, as there's a lot of confusion and misunderstandings in the fog of war and tragedy. His roommate may shed light on things.

He's doing alright. It's been a long day so far. This one has hit very close to home. Thankfully those closest to us have fared well but on the periphery, it's not the same story.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the families that have lost loved ones.

I can't get past the woman who said that "they were all going to die". She said that they were surrounded. That's a huge coincidence, like winning the Lotto after getting a hole in one before getting struck by lightning while getting a phone call from a long lost friend right after you think about him, so you don't have to be a conspiracy theorist to find it odd. People do and say crazy things, but it's weird that she would say that at that particular place and time. It's very rare to have that happen at any event, so I hope that they get to the bottom of this.

Evidently, he had no military training. How did he get the weapons and the ammunition? Fully automatic weapons aren't legal. They claim that he converted them, but that may be false. Two dealerships claim that he bought guns from them. I don't know the types of weapons. If he purchased both weapons and ammunition during a short amount of time in recent days, that *does* show that he likely planned this. I wish that he was alive so that he could answer the big question.

Nevada is a "shall issue" state with pretty low restrictions on anything:  *snip*

There are also things like bump stocks that let you simulate automatic fire by using the recoil that is legal (at least here in Iowa) as well as kits to convert to full auto.

He totally planned it.  He knew the concert, book the hotel in advance with a room with ideal firing arc, geared up, set up, and waited.  He was definitely in full control of his senses.

I hate to get Alex Jones-y, but I'm just not buying the lone gunman theory. It's not impossible, it just makes more sense that there was someone else involved.

First, there were SIXTEEN rifles found in the hotel room alone. Another eighteen were found at his home, but that's not important. Having more than one gun during a mass shooting is common, but sixteen?

Think about how much ammo he would've had to have to pull off what he did. Over 500 injured and nearly 60 killed. The distance from his vantage point and the concert venue was 300+ yards, maybe as many as 500. This guy is shooting from the 32nd floor of the hotel though a broken glass window at nighttime with moving targets. We're talking thousands and thousands and thousands of rounds of ammo, here.

Is it possible to do what he did all by himself? Maybe. Is it probable? I say probably not.

He was getting a divorce, had a girlfriend and loved to gamble. I couldn't think of three things more likely to break the bank. I could understand that. What I can't understand is why he would want to take so many people with him.

The mega million dollar movie stars that go bankrupt boggles my mind though.

He definitely chose it. I doubt that anyone or anything would have dissuaded him. I just wonder if he had help. He probably would have used dynamite if he had it with him.

It's not crazy to ponder such things when you look at all of the circumstances and claims. The guy had no military training, although he could have had weapons training. What about that mysterious woman who told people that they were going to die that night. She said that they were surrounded! You don't have to be David Icke or Texe Marrs to wonder about that. You would be weird if you didn't wonder about that. That just raises all sorts of red flags for me. The timing is suspect, to say the least.

One could acquire licenses and permits for pre-1986 machine guns and that normally reserved for collectors and rich guys of which he may well have been both. In any case this is most bizarre.

Thanks for the correction. It wouldn't be a surprise either way. It's likely that he would have used any kind of weapon, legal or not. He likely would have killed all of the people, on the planet, if he could have done so.

I’ve heard tidbits about that since early this morning. A guy called the show I was listening to said his buddy screen shotted the shooters Facebook page before they removed it last night and said “his favorite show was Rachel Maddow” and that he belong to a couple left wing activist groups. However, we should wait on that.

The wrong person was originaly named as the shooter. Let's be careful that we don't take hersay, and anecdotal evidence and turn it into unsubstantiated fact.

Can you be certain this mysterious caller didn't screen shot the wrong persons account?

True, but like most things, logic means less than perspectives.  The truth is that it doesn't even matter WHY he did it.  Blame brings not one family any relief.  If it turns out that he was a self-radicalized individual with a political beef, it takes our domestic troubles to a whole new level.  I pray that this wasn't his reasoning.

Certainly not. That’s why I finished my post with “however, we should wait on that”.

I watched a video of the attack with audio.  There were no sounds of overlapping fire.  Just the sound of  rapid/automatic shots with a pause for reloading over an over.  There was only a single shooter.  Guy was just emptying clips into the crowd as fast as he could.

So anyone think that the little Hispanic looking lady that was warning everyone might have been a maid? For the hotel?

Next, it could of been worse, he clearly wasn't a Pro, he fires one gun non stop until the barrel swelled, he then switched to the other gun in the second window, and went back and forth, when both weapons were spent he went and threw water on the barrels, but that caused the smoke alarm to go off in his room.

Most of his shots were coming from an overheated barrel which means they were coming out with a major decrease in velocity, what we hear in the video is actually the rounds hitting the ground and bouncing off because they are hitting short, due to the lower velocity.

Had he been trained it could have been worse, a lot worse, a pro could switch out barrels, and use semi automatic to reduce heat and increase accuracy.

I hear the gun in the background of the videos, he used a modified hunting rifle creating a fully automatic 308, all u have to do is order the firing pin online and you essentially turn any semi automatic into full auto. I doubt he had a SAW they are more restricted then a tank in this country. But I do think he may have had a German military style rifle "hk" as well with a drum kit or a "fat mag" or double wide magazine. But the rate of fire was too quick to be a machine gun, they have a timer, this was uneven in rate, deff a home made auto rifle.

Ps standing still is a bad idea, assess the situation, find the general direction of fire, and start moving from cover to cover in the opposite direction. Don't forget most people thought the threat was coming from the ground, but use logic and form a strategic bond with other survivors with the intent of getting away, try not to hide unless you have too, get to law enforcement any way you can.
