Donald Trump is to address the annual conference of an anti-LGBT group which has been classified as a hate group.

The US president will become the first sitting president to address social conservative activists and elected officials at the Value Voters Summit in Washington DC on Friday.

President Trump has addressed the event which is hosted by the Family Research Council three times in total and did so last year as the Republican presidential candidate.

The Family Research Council opposes and actively lobbies against equal rights for LGBT persons. The conservative Christian group campaigns against same-sex marriage, same-sex civil unions, LGBT adoption, abortion, embryonic stell-cell research, pornography and divorce.

''Homosexual conduct is harmful to the persons who engage in it and to society at large, and can never be affirmed,' say summit's host'.

Remember when he said “As your president, I will do everything in my power to protect LGBTQ citizens.” Either he doesn't, or it was just another lie. I say it's the latter.

Edit: lol didn't see Chaos' post.

If it makes you feel any better just make a bunch of money and suddenly he'll be a champion for gay rights.

Like George Jefferson once said to Archie Bunker regarding a bartender calling him sir, "As long as I have green in my pocket then black is his favorite color."

Just curious... can an individual be Christian and also LGBT or Christian and pro-LGBT?

Think about that.

Anyhow... here's Trump's speech in September 2015 at the Value Voters Summit.

I expect much more of the same rhetoric from Trump in his speech.  Again I'll say can an individual be pro-lgbt and christian at the same time?

I would answer no.  That is not to say that a Christian can HATE an LGBT~ person, not at all.  But the bible is clear about the sin of homosexuality and such organizations actually promote the lifestyle.  There is a difference between actively protesting and calling for laws against LGBT groups and simply disavowing their legitimacy.  Those who call themselves Christian yet use the bible to cover for their personal hatred for ANYONE are self-deluded and open themselves to judgment.

Can you cite specific actions he has taken or statements he has made to support your belief about him?  I've never heard him say anything of that sort nor have I heard of any accusations about it that were supported by anything except unsupported rhetoric.

Oh lord, this old canard again? What does it say about it? One or two passages in passing way way way back in the Old Testament which was written for the sole attention of tribes wandering the desert thousands of years ago, and whose relevance to modern day Christianity (or Christianity at all) is about the same as the relevance of the constitution of Ming Dynasty China to the present day United States, and a couple of mentions in passing among the voluminous correspondence of Paul - who was without doubt giving his personal opinion rather than claiming to be stating God's views directly. As all his interpretations of the significance of Jesus and so on were. And Jesus himself rather conspicuously didn't say anything at all about it, did he.

And if it was a Lifestyle Choice that gullible kids were conned into by Hollywood and LGBTQ groups and whoever, why do some countries (and a lot more in the not so very distant past) have laws forbidding it, sometimes on pain of death? That would seem a pretty stupid thing to choose wouldn't it?

I did not say that I hated gays or LGBT~ people.  There IS a lifestyle associated with the movement, however and the question was can you be Christian and BE gay or support LGBT~  The answer, IMO, is no. And I stress again - that does NOT make the individual a hater.  In fact, those who hate anyone for any reason are in danger of judgment on their own souls for the act of hating.   I happen to believe that few, if any gay persons are gay simply by choice.  They were born to be attracted to the same sex just as I was born to be attracted to the opposite sex.

Yes it does. It does create hate. It's telling people they are too unclean to love your God. It's actually terrible that if a human being is born as a homosexual and also feels the calling of a Christian God and the Christian faith they are told they are not allowed to love that God.

I despise religion, but I will fight tooth and nail for every humans right to worship and love their own choice of God.

I'd say since Christianity is supposedly about following the teachings of Christ, and Christ himself seemed to have no recorded opinions on the matter, I don't see why not.

Yes. Someone who accepts all others is what I was taught was true Christianity.

I am a Atheist and I don't like religions at all. I will not infringe upon their rights to a religion, but I don't want to see them force their religion on others or try to oppress others by using their religion. To me that is sickening and straight up evil, I feel every citizen deserves to be treated equally, but I also wish foreign people would respect sovereign of a nation and the constitution of a nation. It is not right for a foreign nationalist to come into a nation and demand that nation to change their laws or way of life to suit their lifestyle that they came from. It is beyond selfish and ignorant of all my nation has gone through. That is why illegal immigrants p*** me off, legal immigrants work hard and respect these things, while illegal immigrants bad mouth my nation and demand us to change our lifestyle to suit theirs.

Legal immigrants have earned the right to be part of our nation while illegal immigrants haven't earned that right, they practically proved they don't deserve the right to be part of this nation.

Legal migration is all good, people who choose to enter a country because they like that country, should respect the way that country is run.

it to me is like when people come to UM and decide they like it here, so they join and post, then they complain about being spoken to by a Modrator. The Mods help make UM as good as it is. You have to put up with us if you enjoy it here.

Having said that refugees are different, they are displaced people with a need for refuge. If a country takes them in they should show respect for that country and it's laws simply because the nation was open enough to give them shelter.

I agree with you Kismit. I don't fight with the Moderators and I respect them. As for Refugees, I feel they should respect that nation and if they cause trouble, they should be expelled from that nation. Being a refugee doesn't give them the right to walk all over the natives of that nation.

I agree with that too. But when it comes down to defining trouble the definition needs to be very clear. It's not always cut and dry and some people particularly polititians will choose vulnerable people like refugees to gain political favour.

We have to take care to look after the rights of everyone, without losing the rights of a nation.

First of all, the Family Research Council is considered a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which in and of itself is a hate group by its own standards. It doesn't take much more then being mainly Christian, or mainly Conservative, to make their "Hate Group" list. They are a joke. But a joke used by millions of people to justify their own hatred back at Christian/Conservative groups that they don't like.

Second, not to defend Pres Trump too much, but some of the things this group defends are honorable... Campaigning against stem cell cloning abuse, and against abortion, against extramarital affairs, underage sex, and divorce, are honorable things to hundreds of millions of American citizens. Also, it depends on what he plans to say to them. Pres Obama could go and address these people and denounce issues of hatred, and yet he'd still be "addressing" them. I suspect we can deduce that Trump isn't going to be doing that, but it is illogical to believe we know what he is going to say before he says it.

I would also say that just because you are advocating against "gay rights", that does not necessarily make you a LGBT hate group. It may be due to tradition, or religion, that the legal changes are not liked. It doesn't have to be hate backed, though many would like that point to not be true.

Are a lot of people going to the conference going to be hate-nutters? Probably. Should all the people going to be labeled as hate-nutters? No. We don't know everyone's motivation for going to the conference, and to assume it is hate based is disingenuous.
