Facebook asking for nude photos to protect users

Facebook is telling users to send them naked pictures they might have of themselves for their own protection.

The social network says it is part of a way to prevent someone from posting the photos online as a form of revenge porn.
The pilot program is being tested in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada.

According to the Australia's Office of the eSafety Commissioner, "The pilot provides a portal for people concerned that an intimate image may be shared online to report it to the Office of the eSafety Commissioner who will notify Facebook to prevent any instances of the image being uploaded after the notification has been actioned."

WTF?!

Right, good idea. Another hack, and millions of photos and videos will be flying all over the net.

Jeez, millennials became IMG (internet moron generation)...

Ok, so a crazy ex has nudie pics of you. The solution is to send copies of these nudie pics to Marky Zuckerberg and his pals?

How about this for an idea: Don't take these types of pictures to begin with. Be damn careful who you date. Be suspicious of Facebook and social media.

EXACTLY!

Another thing, how THAT will prevent of posting pictures you didn't took of yourself by yourself?... I'm trying to get into the minds of this idea... I'm ending blank. Sheer stupidity flies in there...

Thats efkin' crazy...

I wonder how many people who don't have such pictures will now take some, just to send them to Facebook for safe keeping.

I'll bet there are some

it would serve them right if I did send them one of me.

That huge?

Anyway, if I would've been user of Facebook, I'd send them the picture of banana and two rasins. Go figure. Algorithms would go crazy.

It doesn't prevent the images from being uploaded, but it scans the internet every second looking for the image, so you can be notified to get the picture removed.  If you go to a website, and right-click an image, it gives you an option to "search google for this image"...that works the same way.

Main point, how you can look for something that its might be there, or not. I don't photograph my D, and, for the same reason, I don't have a picture of my D. Why would I want to send facebook a photo of my D?.

I advocate taking things even a step further...get off Facebook completely. Facebook is addictive and psychologically damaging. Don't believe it?

To explore the seriousness of this addiction, Hofmann and colleagues (2012) randomly texted participants over the course of a week to ask what they most desired at that particular moment. They found that among their participants, social media use was craved even more than tobacco and alcohol.

Definitely.

Go visit your parents/grandparents and talk to them, talk to your friends in the pub, have fun, make a call (if you cant visit) and talk, for f's sake.

Heck... We are nearing idiocracy in increasing pace.

They likely need their credit card and social security numbers as well. Please tell me that this is from "The Onion". It's hard to tell humor from reality now. If true, what could possibly go wrong?

I disagree with that. We're not *nearing* it; we're *in* it. ;)

It's clear to me that sending ''''Face Book''''' (your friendly Artificial Intelligence buddy..?)

nude pictures of oneself will ultimately increase feelings of vulnerability -

Which would be in line with revelations made by one of the FB founders -

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/nov/09/facebook-sean-parker-vulnerability-brain-psychology

Facebook’s founders knew they were creating something addictive that exploited “a vulnerability in human psychology” from the outset, according to the company’s founding president Sean Parker.

How is it supposed to work anyway...?

You send a nude pic to your boyfriend or girlfriend (or whoever) and simultaneously send a copy to FB...just in case..?

Body shapes can change all the time so a nude pic today could look very different to one a couple of years later -

Can a changing physique be recognised by the '''programme'''

Jeeeesus what a palaver - FB has excelled itself in the creepy spy category with this - :hmm:

I rarely agree with your opinions. On this one, I do. ;)

FBs idea is total trainwreck, no good will come from this.

It sounds like a great way for tech geeks to get nude photos. Maybe the Facebook staff were peeping toms in high school. "We'll tell women to send nude photos for their own safety and security. Some of them will actually fall for it."
