Wh!tey Bulger was ready to die. That’s according to the former warden of the Florida prison where the 89-year-old crime boss was housed before being shipped off to a West Virginia lockup — where the Boston gangster was found bludgeoned to death less than 12 hours later, NBC News reported Monday. “Quite frankly, I think he wanted to die,” said Charles Lockett, the former warden of Coleman II, a high-security penitentiary in Sumterville. “I think whatever issues he had, he had come to peace with them.”

Organized crime has a long history at the Jersey Shore

The arrest Saturday in New Jersey of a 24-year-old man who was charged with murder in the slaying of reputed Gambino family boss Francesco "Franky Boy" Cali, is just the latest link between the Jersey Shore and organized crime. Mobsters have had a long love affair with the Shore, dating back to Prohibition days. Middletown's Deep Cut Park was once the estate of mob boss Vito Genovese, who bought it in 1935; it burned down in 1937. Genovese later relocated to Atlantic Highlands, where he lived from 1949 to 1959, when he went to prison.

Montreal mobster Salvatore Scoppa assassinated

Salvatore Scoppa an influential member of the Montreal mafia was shot to death at the Sheraton Laval Hotel according to reports. It’s uncertain as to how many times he was shot or where but multiple sources reported that he was killed. The police confirmed that shots were fired in the area but could not confirm any other reports at this time. Scoppa had been targeted before by rival mobsters but somehow survived although it seems his luck has finally run out. Five Men Arrested for Schemes Linked to NJ Mob Family

Grewal announced that five defendants pleaded guilty today in connection with criminal schemes that generated millions of dollars through illegal loansharking, unlicensed check cashing, gambling, and money laundering. ‘American Gangster’ Frank Lucas dies in N.J. at age of 88

Frank Lucas, the drug trafficking kingpin whose life was portrayed in the hit movie “American Gangster,” died Thursday night at the age of 88 in New Jersey. Lucas’ death was confirmed by his nephew Aldwan Lassiter, who said his uncle died of natural causes. Lucas became notorious in the drug world after his mentor Ellsworth “Bumpy” Johnson died in 1968. He began importing pure heroin from Southeast Asia and sold large quantities of the drug in Harlem and Newark.

Reputed Lucchese soldier from Staten Island nicknamed ‘Boobsie’ found guilty

A Staten Island man and reputed soldier in the Lucchese organized crime family was found guilty Friday in connection with his role in an illegal gambling operation. After a two-week trial, Eugene (Boobsie) Castelle, 59, was convicted in Manhattan federal court of one count of conducting an illegal gambling business and one count of racketeering conspiracy. He was acquitted on a count of attempted extortion. Public records indicate he lives in Annandale.

Meth-dealing La Cosa Nostra mobster admits staging N.J. pawnshop robbery for insurance money

A member of Philadelphia’s La Cosa Nostra organized crime family admitted Tuesday he staged a robbery of a New Jersey pawnshop and check cashing business nearly five years ago so the owner could collect insurance money. Salvatore “Sam” Piccolo, 67, of Atlantic City, also admitted he sold nearly a half-pound of methamphetamine to an undercover FBI agent, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey said in a statement. Piccolo faces up to 10 years in federal prison on both the wire fraud and drug distribution charges when he is sentenced July 18 in federal court in Camden.

The plan is that by late summer, it’ll be available on Amazon Prime. Downtown Youngstown is where 75 percent of the series titled “Mafia Ties” was taped. “I decided to start writing a story about when I was growing up and the things that I seen,” said John Wilson, the show’s creator from Youngstown. He started writing it three years ago. MSP cadaver dog searches Hillsdale property in Jimmy Hoffa cold case

Investigators with the Michigan State Police searched a parcel of land in Hillsdale Township Thursday morning acting on a tip in the 1975 disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa. Detectives with the Michigan State Police Jackson Post and Jonesville Detachment received the tip from a Jackson woman who inherited the parcel of land when her father passed away. She claimed to have family ties to the American Mafia. The detectives, forensic anthropologists and an MSP K-9 handler with dogs trained in alerting to the presence of cadavers were on site Thursday morning.

Reputed mob figure pleads guilty to extortion in beating of businessman

Reputed Outfit soldier Robert Panozzo pleaded guilty Wednesday to threatening and beating a suburban businessman he claimed owed him $100,000 and then hiring a goon to torch the debtor’s car and house when he wouldn’t pay. “This is serious. I want my money,” Robert Panozzo Sr. allegedly told the victim in 2005 before embarking on a four-year effort to collect the juice-loan debt. Panozzo, a reputed member of the Outfit’s Grand Avenue crew, entered his guilty plea to one count of extortion conspiracy in the federal courthouse in Rockford.

A Philadelphia mobster recently pleaded guilty to conspiring to sell drugs after he was captured on an FBI wire bragging openly about his mafia ways — telling associates, “I’m a criminal…Everything I do is criminal.” “I need like $250,000 a year, or two, to break even,” boasted Joseph Servidio, a reputed foot soldier for the Philadelphia La Cosa Nostra crime family. “That’s what I need,” he said, according to NJ.com. “So I got to do other (criminal) things, ’cause I don’t make enough money.”
