Dropping acid with Boston crime boss James “Whitey” Bulger

The year is 1957. A 28-year-old inmate by the name of James Bulger is serving a 20-year prison sentence for armed robbery. That’s a long time to spend in a tiny cell. A doctor proposes the young Bostonian participate in a drug experiment to earn an early release. He accepts. Why wouldn’t he? Dr. Carl Pfeiffer seems trustworthy. He’s a professor at Emory University medical school and is currently conducting some experiments at the Atlanta federal penitentiary where Bulger is staying.

CHICAGO MOB MUSCLE BASHES BOSSES SAYING OUTFIT LEADERSHIP ‘WEAK & INEFFECTIVE,’ INCLUDES VENA IN CANDID CRITIQUE

Incarcerated Chicago mafia hit man Steve Mandell wasn’t happy with the Outfit’s leadership structure during his final years pounding the pavement for the mob, according to a new Chicago Tribune report related to Mandell’s suspected role in an unsolved 2012 murder. Mandell is a suspect in several gangland slayings dating back decades. The Trib reported this week that Mandell, already doing a life prison sentence for attempting to torture and murder a pair of Chicagoland businessmen in order to take over their assets, was caught on an FBI video and audio wire talking about the fall 2012 death of Sicilian Highland Park, Illinois restaurateur Giacomo Ruggirello the day he died in an alleged arson fire and his Highwood eatery was robbed.

Police try to exhume mob victim, but they can't find remains

The decomposed body was found decades ago in a rural area where several victims of mob hits were dumped. The man's remains were buried in a cemetery in the 1970s, still unidentified. Now, investigators want to exhume the remains to try to identify the man, but there's one problem: His grave is empty. New York State Police investigators said this week that they would keep looking. "We're like bulldogs," Senior Investigator Yan Salomon said Thursday when asked if police were frustrated at finding an empty grave.

The Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre And The Fall Of Al Capone

Normally Valentine’s Day is about love but on the cold north side of Chicago in 1929 it was revenge not romance that filled the newspapers. Four members of Al Capone’s Chicago Outfit most likely Fred Burke, James Ray, John Scalise, and Albert Anselmi lured seven members of Bugs Moran’s Northside gang into a garage to discuss buying a large amount of illegal whiskey. When Peter and Frank Gusenburg, Adam Heyer, Reinhart Schwimmer, Albert Weinshank , James May, and Bug’s second in command Albert Kachellek arrived they weren’t greeted by a ton of illegal hooch but by two men in suits and another two in police uniforms.

The ‘real’ story of the man who murdered Jimmy Hoffa

Outside of Lee’s Tavern, in the Dongan Hills neighborhood of Staten Island, a 1970s Thunderbird was wired to explode. It was October 2017, but Hancock Street looked like it had time-tripped to 1975 — and morphed into Detroit. The facade of Lee’s had been done up with an awning that read “Nemo’s.” Next door, Karina’s barbershop had been adorned with a hand-painted logo on its window. Men in period-appropriate garb strolled the block. And Martin Scorsese orchestrated the whole scene.

Feds release thousands of secret documents on JFK assassination

The National Archives released more than 2,000 documents related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The release comes after President Trump blocked the release of hundreds of additional records on the assassination Thursday, bending to CIA and FBI appeals. Despite a deadline set decades ago, the National Archives only turned over some 2,800 other records Thursday night. “I have no choice,” Trump said in a memo, citing “potentially irreversible harm” to national security if he were to allow all records out now. He was placing those files under a six-month review while letting the others come out Thursday to meet a deadline to honor a law mandating their release.

Notorious con man sentenced to "Supermax" prison at his own request

A notorious Florida conman will serve his 20-year sentence in solitary at the infamous federal Supermax prison — at his request. A federal judge granted Jimmy Sabatino's request during a Monday hearing in Miami. The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports Sabatino told federal Judge Joan Lenard the only way to stop him from committing cons is to keep him from contacting the outside world. Sabatino pleaded guilty to running a $10 million fraud from his cell at Miami's federal jail where he was being held for an earlier fraud. In his latest con, the 41-year-old Gambino crime family associate used smuggled cellphones to dupe luxury retailers to send jewelry, watches and other items to his outside co-conspirators.

Colombo mob boss who filed slip-and-fall suit knew of Ping-Pong dangers, feds say

Mob life is dangerous. So, apparently, is Ping-Pong. The feds, in seeking to toss a slip-and-fall suit filed by Colombo crime family big Thomas Gioeli, say that table tennis is a risky endeavor. The 65-year-old wiseguy sued the government, saying he slipped in a puddle and hurt himself while playing the game while in federal lockup. But court papers filed this week argue that Gioeli knew about Ping-Pong's perils — including walking on water to track down errant balls.

Richard Valentini, last defendant in Mafia-related extortion case, a holdout in U.S. District Court

The government is poised for the last of five reputed La Cosa Nostra associates to blink as a Dec. 11 trial date in a long-running extortion case looms. Four reputed Greater Springfield mobsters have either already pleaded guilty or have flagged their intentions to plead guilty, according to court records. Meanwhile, an attorney for the fifth, Richard Valentini, of East Longmeadow, has said he intends to take Valentini's case to trial. He argues his client has been unfairly portrayed as part of a bully mob that squeezed Springfield tow company operator Craig J. Morel for $20,000 in "tribute" earmarked for organized crime.

American mafia founder Albert Anastasia's hilltop New Jersey mansion sells for $6.9million

A home built by one of America's most infamous mobsters has been sold. The 6,529-square-foot hilltop mansion in Fort Lee, New Jersey that once belonged to Albert Anastasia - the head of Murder Inc - was sold by auction house Guernsey's for $6.9 million. Anastasia, a founder of both the American Mafia and the mob's enforcement arm, was the boss of what would become the modern Gambino crime family. In a report, authorities estimated that Anastasia was part of, in person or by direction, close to 30 assassinations by ice pick, strangling rope or gun. He was killed in October 1957 while making his daily visit to the barbershop at the Park Sheraton hotel in New York City.

Thanks for the post Silver Thong. I don't think the Clinton's are connected to the mafia but one could make an argument that they are or have been involved in organized criminal activity. The Russians as you said are definitely involved in organized crime in America and Canada and they are very violent. I believe they have a controlling interest in Uranium One? The mafia is very prevalent in Canada especially in the Provinces of Quebec and Ontario and concentrated in cities like Montreal, Toronto and Hamilton.

The Clintons created there own mafia. I think the death toll is about 60 people now. The Russians really don't bother me much, they are used as a scape goat. I use to play around with the Grim Reapers as a 20 ish year old till the Hell's Angels took them over. I have a cure for most corruption.

Some prisoners prefer to do their own time without having to worry about prison politics. If he has requested this himself, then he'll probably have access to books and other prison "luxuries" - unlike people sent to solitary as a punishment.

The results of this were catastrophic.

It seems a strange coincidence that both he and The Unabomber were part of Project MKUltra. I wonder if there are other notable nutjobs who are known to have taken part in the experiments. And it makes you wonder how many unknowns there might be, not to mention how many other similar programmes may have existed.

The Gotti clan is begging a Brooklyn federal judge to show mercy on the grandson of the notorious gangster. John J. Prosecutors seek 15-year sentence for aging ‘Goodfellas’ gangster over road rage hit

An aging “Goodfellas” gangster, acquitted for his alleged role in the infamous $6 million 1978 Lufthansa heist, could still spend the rest of his life behind bars. Brooklyn federal prosecutors want a judge to sentence Vincent Asaro, 82, to 15 years in jail for ordering a hit on the car that cut him off. Federal guidelines say the auto arson charge merits five or six years in prison. Two years ago, the Bonanno capo scored a stunning acquittal on racketeering charges, and walked out of Brooklyn Federal Court a free man.

Who Needs City Hall, Anyway? Bo Dietl Still Has His Table at Rao’s

It was getting toward the end of the night at Rao’s, the hedonistic swirl of food, banter, profanity and singalongs finally dying down, affording Bo Dietl the rare chance for reflection. He leaned against the bar, his usual pink drink of Ketel One, club soda and cranberry juice in hand, his mind on the New York City of old and the race for mayor that could have been. “Memories are so beautiful,” he said, punctuating his comment with one of many unprintable words and phrases heard that night. “That’s what I love about falling asleep and dreaming. The old days was a lot better. You didn’t have some towel-head running you over.”

The ringleader of a $15 million cross-country pot-peddling operation — which included an elderly Gambino family captain and the owner of Parisi Bakery — has been sentenced to two years in prison. Stephen Gallo, 66, previously pleaded guilty to drug sales, promoting gambling and criminal tax fraud in connection to his multiple open cases.  Gallo headed a crew busted in July 2016 on allegations it moved large amounts of high-end prescription reefer from California to New York for resale. Justice Neil Ross told Gallo he should straighten out his life when he gets out of prison.

John Travolta’s ‘Gotti’ movie gets bumped to 2018

“Gotti” — the John Travolta movie that had four titles, four directors, and a staggering 37 producers — has hit another snag, or two. The long-delayed drama about the Dapper Don, John Gotti, most recently slated for a December release, has now been pushed to next year. Meanwhile, Shirley Jones, the widow of Marty Ingels, is demanding payment of the $35,000 her husband was promised for finally getting the troubled movie on track.
