Prehistoric women had insanely strong arms

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

The arm bones of women who lived 7,000 years ago show an incredible level of strength - even higher than today's elite athletes. That's according to a first-ever study comparing prehistoric bones to those of living people.

The finding suggests a revision of history - the everyday lives of prehistoric women were filled with hard manual labour, rather than just sitting at home doing lighter domestic tasks while the men slogged.

This doesn't surprise me. Especially when everything was manual labor.

Exactly. Compare an Eastern European farm wife to a Beverly Hills trophy wife: the body adapts to it's environment, for better or worse.

Yep...can not imagine women in those days sitting around putting make up on or knitting. No dishwashers or home delivery services back then

I think in a way we see this even now. Compare the office jockey to the manual laborers.

Or running after them, we have not got to this amount in our population because the men ran away from wimmen.

Nowadays men have a better choice....prettier women and (cough) prettier men.

Anyone who thinks that obviously hasn't ever tried a subsistence lifestyle. Its all hands on deck at all times in order to survive.

One's muscular development is proportionate to one's labors. During the days of the tall ships, the ships-of-the-line, sailor's families lived on board with them, usually on the gun deck. In battle, women aided their men and even manned the cannon if a man fell. A  male child born on the gun deck was sometimes called a "son-of-a-gun(ner)", an expression we still use today, 'though the meaning is lost.

Hmmm. I beg to differ with this bit:

Quote

The Venus of Willendorf is a superbly crafted sculpture of a naked obese woman from the stone age

Superbly? Really? Its a bit of "art" but too much credit being given. No matter how old, its still gross.

Sadly, I think it started at the top.
