Saudi Arabia to allow cinemas after 35 years

9 posts in this topic

Saudi Arabia has announced it will lift a ban on commercial cinemas that has lasted more than three decades.

The ministry of culture and information said it would begin issuing licences immediately and that the first cinemas were expected to open in March 2018.

The measure is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030 social and economic reform programme.

The conservative Muslim kingdom had cinemas in the 1970s, but clerics persuaded authorities to close them.

Oh hell no, its a freaking trap.

Maybe not one set intentionally but who the hell knows which religious wacko is going to take over that nation next.

This sounds like a good way to get stoned to death for watching the wrong movie.

It's a bit like a team sport where one individual player is trying to win the game on his own.  Unless there is structure to support him, he'll fail miserably.  In sport he'll probably end up getting benched, in politics.......

maybe they're using the cinemas for profiling purposes... play a Tom Cruise movie and whoever enjoy's it, is an enemy of the state. :)
