Any similar movies to Thesis; 8 mm; etc.?

Are there any good movies like the Spanish one called Tesis (Thesis) or the one starring Nicolas Cage titled 8 mm? Both would fall into the category known as "found footage/snuff " type of thing.

Odd the Spanish one never got an American remake version.

Only one I can think of is 'Cold July' with Michael C. Hall, Sam Shepard and Don Johnson, though the found footage isn't discovered until later in the film.

I've already seen Oldboy, good one. And I'll definitely check out Cold July, looks promising; however, I'm looking for thrillers that delve into the kind of  (underground) world depicted in the two aforementioend movies.

The Poughkeepsie Tapes is exactly what you need, it has kidnapping, snuff, and its found footage:D  trailer

Cold July fits the bill. The first half of the film deals with an improbable character set up.

It's Cold In July, but whatever.

I've seen all of those already; very good recommendations, nontheless.

If you can think of more, keep'em coming!

Hostel, in a way, fits the description as well: extreme voyeurism, if you will.

Ok, I will watch it.

That's an odd (and creepy) request.

Yeah... I like my horror movies, but this niche is a little dark for my taste.

I have seen 8mm, and it's actually a pretty good film - directed by Joel Schumacher (Flatliners, Falling Down, The Number 23, etc.) - but it's hard to watch at times.

I can tell you the film you probably want is A Serbian Film. I haven't seen it, nor do I want to, but by its reputation, it fits your criteria exactly.

Read the IMDb comments and you'll get the idea. It sounds bloody awful to me :hmm:

  • 2 weeks later...

Not found Footage but....

Vacancy

Vacany 2: The First Cut

13 Sins might be in the ballpark. (English remake of 13: Game Of Death)

There's a few internet voyeurism flicks that sort of fit too, like Untraceable and FearDotCom, though the latter's supernatural.

Perhaps the August Underground films will be some interest to you?.

Recorder on a old camcorder, lots of murder, gore galore, presented in a rather raw fashion.  There are 3 films I believe.

Not for everyone obviously but I enjoyed them for what they were

  • 1 month later...

Couple others I ran across mixed in with the B movies on Viewster but haven't watched yet so YMMV:

The Great American Snuff Film

Home Made   (2008)

(there's also a sequel to the first, The Greatest American Snuff Film, but that's not on there)
