It would be easy for anyone to claim this as the story is so well known, but it would also be easy to match the DNA to any living relatives of the escapee should this man turn himself in.

I don't think it would be worth it just to satisfy a curiosity.  Only one more year for bank robbery and prison escape just so he can get medical treatment to save his life?  How many millions has the tax payer already spent on trying to get justice with this guy?  Why spend more money on him?  Probably should just let him die at this point.

We believe what we want to believe and if we can convince others of our belief we then have support. Citing the Rule of Simplicity, of Occam's Razor, would perhaps have us consider the situation ... 'if we hear hoofbeats, think of horses not zebras.' Interesting test of belief is it not?

If we have DNA from the three men, and it's doubtful if we do, call his bluff.  If he's a fake you charge him with whatever you can, then drop the charges.  Sounds like the guy is just looking for free medical treatment.

They can always get DNA from family members and match it that way.

True, if any are still around and not too far "branched" on the tree.

One reason would be that they choose not to waste government money for his healthcare.  Unfortunate.

Interesting to see how the priorities of society have changed since I was young, around what we should or should not spend money on. It's not a judgement, it's just interesting. We seem to have altered our definition of 'civilized'.

It sounds like he is after free medical care, after all, prisoners today live better than most people what with free medical, free food, free board. Why not?
