The woman who looked at faces, saw dragons

In July 2011, a woman presented at a psychiatric clinic in the Netherlands reporting something truly bizarre: for her entire life she'd seen multiple peoples' faces change into dragon-like faces - an hallucination that occurred many times a day.

"She could perceive and recognise actual faces, but after several minutes they turned black, grew long, pointy ears and a protruding snout, and displayed a reptiloid skin and huge eyes in bright yellow, green, blue, or red," the research team wrote in The Lancet in 2014. 

The 52-year-old was suffering from what's known as prosopometamorphopsia; a psychiatric disorder in which faces appear distorted.

Please forgive me. It is so easy to label people that are different with labels. Who are we to say she is not seeing their true nature? #sigh.

They don't say whether she was taking drugs or if she had a stroke or tumor, but they do say this...

Researchers are unclear about what causes prosopometamorphopsia, but it can be induced by taking hallucinogenic drugs as well as strokes and tumours, which affect certain areas of the brain.

One such area is thought to be the fusiform gyrus, which is the part of our brain associated with face recognition. The fusiform gyrus is located in the ventral occipitotemporal cortex, and damage to it can make people hallucinate or unable to recognise faces.

Still, this woman's hallucinations were particularly rare, being so specific.

It might explain why this idea of reptilians is so pervasive. Maybe there are people walking around undiagnosed and just dealing with it.

I know this sounds stupid to most of you. My heart is just so sore that we (society) slap a definition on it for our own sanity sake. We assume, presume and theorize the reasons why she is different, why she perceives different. I think my peeve comes from slapping a label on them deeming them insane/ ready for an asylum . locking them in there and medicate the cr@p out of them.

That's the solution. Medicate them so we don't have to deal with them. That breaks my heart. Literally tears it out of my chest. For they are human. Like us. Just different. 

I dunno. Maybe I am the stupid one.

No you are not stupid, in some cultures those who we would deem crazy, are treated very differently, as more enlightened, spiritual beings..

And I suspect that they would look at our allopathic way of treating, subduing the symptoms instead of tackling the root cause, I could imagine that they think us crazy too!

I would imagine that this is a big part of it..

Many, otherwise normal folk, have claimed to see people shape-shift before their eyes, I would imagine that there are thousands more who either dismiss these things as unreal, or perhaps they are too "scared" to mention it to anyone.

Perhaps Icke was right?!?!
