Trump will meet with Kim Jong Un

I do not believe that North will even consider to give up it's nuclear arsenal because if they do, North will cease to exist. They were always on the 'wrong side' as seen by colonialists and their projects around the world ( for example North Korean pilots in 1973 October war ). Fun fact is that by relaxing relationship between North and USA military industry would lose billions...

Trump has made over 100 billions on his most recent visit to Asia, in arms sales. But it will be fun to wait for results of possible meeting, i surely hope for best scenario because the world is feed up of wars and violence out of which only the chosen few profit while millions are left dead and disabled...

I agree, he probably won't give up his nukes as that is they are the only reason NK is in any way relevant but the wagon had been crashing downhill for years now but this is a very positive step regardless and we lose nothing by meeting with the little monster as we have not ceased any of the embargoes or military exercises.  If Obama had gotten Kim to consider meeting personally he'd have been awarded another Nobel Peace Prize and MSNBC would be crying with joy on the air.

Like AO said, Kim may back out, probably will, so what, he made an unprecedented move and obviously he is weakening.  The most interesting thing will be to watch the haters like AO and the media celebrate when Kim backs out.  What does that tell you?

You have it all wrong.  I do not think Kim will back out.  I think Trump won't actually meet with him.  He wanted to do something to take away from the news cycle which consisted of porn stars and tariffs, just like he wanted to have a televised cute little DACA meeting to prove his mental competence after that weird slurred speech episode.  Trump can say he will meet Kim, but Trump says a whole lotta things.

Yes, it is the only reason which makes North relevant and 'alive' to this day, especially if we take into account what has happened to those before who gave up their arsenals of WMD's, nukes or gases. Kim knows this better i guess but one thing is sure - there should be no alternative to diplomacy and talks. Personally, i truly hope that Trump will meet with Kim and that some progress will be made even tho it is hard to expect easing of relationship because of mentioned 'players'.

I just can not follow such designations of foreign leaders, such as '' little rocket man '' or your own remark ( which was fun i was rofl after reading it ) '' little monster '' because every leader who was opposed to Western hegemony was labeled as such, form Idi Amin over to Gadaffi and Sadam, out of which all were acceptable at some point in history, until they decided to became sovereign and that move made them 'devils' with Hollywood trademark all over those designations.

I just fear that even if Trump decides to end hostilities there are many who would oppose him. Anyhow, fingers crossed and i'll keep optimism high, even if it's contrary to the facts :)

I’m skeptical, but I’ll believe it when I see Dennis Rodman installed as our new Ambassador to North Korea.

Piney is not alone in having relatives in the way.  My sister is on a base in Japan.  It would have probably been a good target for a missile that couldn't make it to the US.

And of course it's understandable that you, Piney or anyone else for that matter would be concerned for their family or friends being possible targets whilst that idiot remained defiant against world condemnation by continuing to launch these missiles and being a serious threat.

Quote

If Hillary had been president and had accomplished this, how many or you would have thought it was a trap or a crooked conspiracy?

Well since she isn't the president, personally for me that's rather difficult to speculate on.

Quote

I may not be quite as opposed to Trump as some of you are to Hillary, but I think it is pretty good news.

I'm personally not fussed on either of them. Even so, if something good can come from this, then yes, all the better.

Quote

An honest leftie or rightie should be able to acknowledge good news when it comes. They may not wind up meeting, but it has already been more than we have seen in many years.  I am going to give President Trump some credit for this much. I think it is more than luck  I hope he can make more of it.  Time will tell.  Maybe the North Koreans have got their missile program  where they want it for now, feel safe enough to take a chance.

Well so far there's been a lot of buzz and speculation as far as this meeting might go between Trump and him (as this surprising announcement sinks in)

Lets never forget tho, that this little dictator presides over a prison state, purges his foes and had vowed to obliterate the US in a nuclear cloud, including making threats to other countries. So I think it's understandable, that many are still feeling rather dubious about NK as a whole.

Apart from that, and from what Iv'e gathered it's only a vague undertaking for de-nuclearization from the North Koreans and an agreement to refrain from future missile and nuclear testing, but there are no guarantees. It's obvious though, that these heavier sanctions placed on NK may have begun to bite hard. So yes, it's only fair to give Trump credit as far as that's concerned.

It will also be interesting to see what Kim may want in return, when or if this meeting takes place around May I believe.

Thanks for proving me right so quickly by posting such an absurd reason for this announcement.  LOL funny and truly ridiculous reasoning, I knew you were an out of control hater but you have outdone yourself with this one.  :tu:

How did you missed his Asia tour? :) He even bragged about it on his twitter. Saudis ( alleged masterminds behind 9/11 ) alone bought close to 100 billion of $ worth of weapons ( air defense contract was around 15 billion alone ).

Interesting as of recent is this story : https://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2018-02-05/trump-to-speed-up-us-arms-sales-by-reducing-oversight-sources-say

As a result of his success it seems that congress won't be 'interrupting' sales anymore.

All in all, it is impossible for POTUS to be out of arms business ( were earlier presidents warning US public of dangers from MIC? ) and Trump has even took it on another level, as fellow students say, he took money from NRA for his campaign but that might be fake story because it is related to Rusophobia.

You implied that the president personally gained/earned 100 billion dollars from arms sales.  Your use of loose language is intentional, IMO, to perpetuate a narrative about Trump and it needs to be called out every time it's done.  The U.S. sells a LOT of weapons to our allies.  So does the Russian Federation, Israel, China, India... An den?  An what?  Just because you aren't happy about U.S. policies or the occupant of the Oval Office doesn't give you the right to LIE about us.  It takes away your credibility, as well.

North Korea promised only to stop testing but they have already reached the point where they can mass produce. The next logical step for them would have been coming to the table.  They aren't giving up their nukes.  They are just going to use the fact that they have them in the next level of the poker game.  Starving them isn't going to make them less paranoid and the world still sees them as something that needs to be removed regardless of the nukes because of the atrocities.

Trump is American president as of early 2016 or so.

Isn't it logical when talking about politics and referring to Trump that i do not talk about his private life or person, but only about President of The United States?

I always have an agenda, as seen by you or by my dear friend in discussion, Mr. @RoofGardener

I might be merely stating my opinion which was formed based on actual events, reading between the lines and researching the subjects without borders. As you know i do not 'hate' Trump, sometimes i agree with him but in majority of things i do not follow his twisted logic but that's not Trump, that's establishment which again returns me to your remark about 'president personally' - which is contradictory by nature.

8 minutes ago, and then said:

You are really off subject by light year my friend. Let me ask you one thing, after stating that i agree, everyone sells guns and ammo hell even Bosnia sold ammo to Syrian separatists but Bosnia was blessed by West in doing so ( check Bulgarian journalist who disclosed this, she was jailed on many occasions )...

This topic is about USA and North Korean relations. Arms sales were mentioned because that hostility is what secures MIC sales in the region. Can you even comprehend how much money that North Korean missile over Japan has made?

I am sorry friend, if you do not understand the subject i can't possibly make you understand it nor would i want to because, it seems to me at least, you feel as if i was attacking Zionist supremacist policies, which isn't the case here.

I haven't had breakfast yet, reading something interesting, but i had few bites of my enormous credibility and it gave me strength to finish this reply, on empty stomach :)

Another question, everyone sells arms which means that American bomb might be used by Saudis against Yemen. I do not see American fault there but American politicians feel that it's perfectly fine to accuse Iran for missile that was launched by Yemen against Saudis!?

It's also ok for Saudis to rampage through Yemen for years and when they get 'one back' it is alarm for 'free world' to accuse Yemen of aggression against their actual aggressors.

I am sorry but do you like those policies? I do not but i like reasoning behind building the wall to stop drugs and illegal trafficking of all sorts, even tho i do not agree that Mexico should pay for it ( which it wont anyhow ).

Does this remove my credibility and make it possible for you to label me as hater who can't be credible because of the hate for USA? We were talking about this sort of ad hominem earlier and trust me, it's not the road you wan't to take again. I do not want either.

Sorry for longer post but i had to address this, and out of respect ( which i still have for you ) i felt that you deserve through answer. Hey, i love America but i dislike your deep state which many Americans do hate too i believe. Is it a crime to question official narrative? Your politics are ****ty i felt on my own skin, it took almost 5 years to stop butchers from killing my people in middle of Europe ;) but still i am thankful it was hard to do anything with so many lobbies all around.

Seems like a positive to me.

Whatever Kim's motives, Trump's already stated the intention to keep the pressure and sanctions on the North in the interim.

There's nothing to be lost, and everything to be gained from a meeting, especially given the way things have been heading in recent months. Noone could have seen this coming.

As to Kim's motives, who knows? I suspect either pressure from China, or sanctions are finally taking a toll that he can't ignore. The big question is what he's going to ask in return, if he's serious about nuclear disarmament.

Is that all you said?  No, it is not, use your head before posting please as you are wasting my time.

I guess what is so very frustrating is that this is a very positive development and yet people like you are so full of hatred that not only can't you say even one slightly positive thing, you make up some vile reason for it occurring.   Honestly, you need help, I recommend you seek it.

There's not going to be any war. North Korea couldn't win and any victory for the winners would by a pyrrhic one. So, they're going to talk, negotiate, bargain, offer proposals and counter-proposals and eventually come to an agreement  The result will be the preservation of the status quo, the preservation of the NK regime and the SK's peace and prosperity. Both side's military will return to station keeping with much less overt inimical posturing. Once the ice is broken and both leaders meet face-to-face, the pressure will be on both of them to cut a deal. It's what Republicans do best. Only Nixon could go to China.

"Peace through strength"

Kim knows he's dealing with a leader in the US that is unpredictable, and some would say unstable.

"There's a new sheriff in town" and he sees which way the wind blows. Tough talk and Twitter rhetoric has taken it's toll.

I'm all for the two sitting down and talking, and that in and of itself is a victory for Trump and the US so I'm not trying to discount  that at all, just not at the celebration point just yet.

And the world.

To all of the people with a negative attitude about this, change the headline to read 'OBAMA TO MEET KIM JONG UN FOR NUCLEAR TALKS' and then see how you feel about it.  Your attitude isn't making you look like you're on the right side here.  Send some positive energy out into the universe.

Trump's strategy is to create conditions unpalatable to the other party requiring negotiations to resolve. You can go to war or trade war or cut a deal.

C’mon man. That could very well bring out the Trump that lurks beneath. The one everybody like you fears. He’d have faired much better pulling the wool over Obama’s eyes. There’d have been minimal repercussions and if Bernie Sanders were President all the Kim Jongs of the world would be screwing with that sad sack. I don’t think he wants to mess with Trump like that. Do you?
