Democratic Socialism

Obamacare was cost effective alright. Just depends what your definition of effective is. A negative effect for me, a positive effect for the insurance companies.

That may or may not be true, but my point stands. The mandate, not tax, is a violation of our civil rights. As a purported libertarian, you should recognize this fact. The forced health insurance scam is just one more example of the disastrous Obama administration.

Grab the sharpie and write this day on the calendar ......Merc is right!

Farmer is no libertarian, he may have believed he was at one time but he is a big government, single payer socialist now.   Call him on it every time he makes that claim.

I adjust my positions based on the facts. I have just come to the (correct)  conclusion that we live in a hybrid oligarchy/corporatocracy and the corporations and oligarchs that run our lives are only looking out for their best interest.

Libertarianism is great in theory but in practice you need allies. At a minimum we have a shot at enacting change in a socialistic system through voting. As is we are simply beholden to our corporate masters in the 21st century version of American taxation without representation.

He explained his views in a prior post. It sounded like he had his own combination of political beliefs, which were particular to him. I don't consider him to be a libertarian, but I take him at his word when he says that he's more anti-Trump than anything else. My assumption was that he was a Democrat or a progressive of some kind.

I'm in the small libertarian club with Acidhead and Preacherman. You sound like a Bernie bro' to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can see you voting for him if he runs in 2020. I have to compliment you for your honesty, by the way.

That's the rule, but there are a few exceptions, which are becoming outliers. Jim Webb, who would have run against Trump in a sane world, comes to mind.

IDK to be completely honest. My gut reaction is to say that no I would not support Bernie after the way he capitulated to the DNC in 2016 but in the absence of something better I would definitely vote for him over any republican. I voted Stein last time around, would've been Johnson but at the time I voted it was still up in the air whether he would get on all 50 state ballots. Currently I'm of the mind that ill probably vote whomever has the best chance at beating Trump but I honestly don't know if my conscience will allow me to pull the lever for either major party for POTUS.

Truthfully ive only ever voted for one democrat in my life and that was McCains opponent this last election. I'm really curious to see how it all plays out between now and 2020.

Thank you for the compliment BTW.

I couldn't ever vote for Sanders because of his socialism, but I get his appeal. I actually liked him for a short while, but he did and said a few things that rubbed me the wrong way. Up until then, it seemed like he shook up the entrenched system that chose Clinton. He betrayed his fans. That wasn't the only thing. His comment, that White people don't know what it's like to be poor, was absurd and ridiculous. His courting of Sharpton (still doing it now) was a huge turnoff too. Kucinich is still my favorite progressive, and you won't "feel the burn" with him.

Jim Webb would've had my vote too if he had won the primary.

He's the best of the bunch. He's a moderate Democrat surrounded by radical progressives.
