A New Jersey school district that allegedly suspended two high school students this week over a gun photo taken during a family visit to a private shooting range is facing community backlash and the threat of a lawsuit over district policies.

The photo of four rifles, magazines and a gun duffel bag was shared by one of the students on the social media app Snapchat with the caption "fun day at the range," according to Lacey Township resident Amanda Buron, a family friend of one of the students.

There are always two sides to every story, if not three (the real facts).

But, this sounds extremely invasive as a written policy of this school system that ANY possession of a weapon on or off school grounds for ANY reason is subject to up to a year's suspension? Somebody needs to change that. I will argue that and not anything about this case as stated so far. Just the policy as written.

We are to believe they were so alarmed for the safety of their other students that they took action - which was 5 days IN SCHOOL Suspension? They had to report to the school? Is that what this means?? This is about enforcing their anti-gun rhetoric, not about keeping their children safe while law enforcement verifies the boys are stable and not a danger if it actually was motivated by paranoia.

This is just politics and a terrible policy that further denies parental authority. My daughter is as good a shot as I am. I have taken her out and made her safe with guns since she was old enough to handle a .22 and she would be punished for this if she was in that school system?

This is the sort of garbage that gives gun control a bad name.

Will it had a banner saying the school change their policy and now doesn't say anything about off school grounds.  How does a parent going to teach their kid to hunt if they can't fire a gun. My roommate and I took my neighbor kid out to the gun range. He had a blast and he learned how to fire a gun safely.  He told his mother he was going bird watching. Next time, I'll make sure I tell his mom myself.  Or maybe not, kid has got to have some fun.  His pop doesn't see him, so how's he going to learn about guy stuff.  It is all women at his house.  Maybe I can get him to fix the roomie's Jeep, if we let him drive it in the backwoods.

Just now, Grandpa Greenman said:

first thing parents need to teach kids, who is your friend and who is not, who you need to say things as they are, and who you do not want to tell anything, and who you can expect to screw you over given a slightest chance.  once you get that right, you can teach and take your kid anywhere, and he\she will know where and who to tell, and who does not need to know. or who needs to be told otherwise, it is very interesting and dangerous times we live in,  what you say matters more than what you actually do.  so one needs to adopt to situation, and if possible use it to his\her advantage. that is something only a parent can teach. a parent that actually raises the kid, not just sends him to school, and feeds him when kid comes home,
