UM-Bot Posted January 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2005 Image credit: NASA/ESA [Titan latest News] European Space Agency mission managers for the Huygens probe confirm that data of the probe's descent to Saturn's moon Titan are being received. The data was transmitted from the probe to NASA's Cassini spacecraft and then back to Earth. The Huygens team is set to begin processing data and hope to release first images later today. Scientists are interested in Titan because its chemistry is thought to be very similar to that of early Earth, before life formed. Saru Posted January 14, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2005 It does indeed have cameras, in fact it was also designed to take photographs of the surface all the way down during it's decent. If everything goes well, we should see some spectacular images.

Saru Posted January 14, 2005 #19 Share Posted January 14, 2005 Ah thanks Manfred. That's a picture made up of data from the Cassini spacecraft to help predict which areas will be covered by Huygens, the new Huygens pictures aren't available yet. Saru Posted January 14, 2005 #22 Share Posted January 14, 2005 Looks like there will be a live broadcast from the ESA from 19:45 to 20:15 GMT when the first 18 pictures will be received. I'm not sure if that broadcast can be viewed on-line though, I hope they post the images up on their site aswell.
