IBelieveWhatIWant Posted April 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2018 (edited) I was just driving back from getting some early morning Maccas when I spotted in the sky what looked to be a partial red moon. Now this couldn't be true because at about 3:30 am the moon should be at the very least straight above if not close to the west and I didn't get a long look because it went behind some trees and buildings. So I passed my turn and followed the road and sure enough when I saw it again it was 100% a partial (what seemed to be) red moon very low in the east, and when I saw partial it was about half the size of the waxing or waning crescent and on the bottom of the moon. My question is, why was the moon very low in the east at 3:30am and why was it a red moon, I didn't think any were gonna happen for a little while. EDIT: You might need where I am located for a more precise answer. I am based in East Victoria, Australia Edited April 12, 2018 by IBelieveWhatIWant Additional info
Davros of Skaro Posted April 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2018 I saw the same thing NE U.S. 5:15 am (approximately). 1) It's the correct phase. 2) Even though I was puzzled at the uncommon redness displayed for the distance it was from the horizon (about 30 minutes after rise). I assumed the atmosphere was unusually dense with dust?
