It doesnt make sense fiscally really, or any sense for that matter under the current circumstances.

Under our current system a very large percentage of our population does not get appropriate regular healthcare maintenance. A lifetime of ignoring small issues tends to morph into a 65 year old with a bunch of large issues. By the time they become that large they are infinitely more expensive to deal with, and of course by the time people are 65 the government is paying for their healthcare.

All universal care will do is shift the cost from those who are ill to everyone.  For example universal health care won't help that epipens cost over $600 in America while in the UK they cost $69 while costing the company only about $15 to make of which most of the cost is on the case.

Well the epipen example should be part of an overhaul of our system for sure. Hell I was on Enbrel for a while that crap cost 1800 a month.

What most miss is that here in America we're already living in a pseudo socialist system as it relates to healthcare. Health care providers regularly charge exorbitant rates for things in order to cover for their losses from folks who can't pay. I learned this after raising hell over being billed $30 for a single ibuprofen in my local ER.

To make the post on topic more or less, I personally think the Native American should just fully integrate already, what real benefit is there to keeping the tribal government stuff going at this point in time.

IDK I think the basic concept of honoring our commitments should be enough for us to leave them alone.

Good question.  Why doesn't the United States fully integrate into global society and dispense with this national government thing?   Maybe we have our reasons and maybe they do too. Everybody has their own perspective I guess.

There are benefits to free medical care or universal care or whatever you want to call it but it also has serious downsides, just like how private medical care has benefits and serious downsides, but till the issue of drug companies jacking up their price of medicine in America and reform to sueing for medical malpractice is done then nothing is really going to change, cost will still be astronomical.  All universal care will do is shift the cost from those who are ill to everyone.  For example universal health care won't help that epipens cost over $600 in America while in the UK they cost $69 while costing the company only about $15 to make of which most of the cost is on the case.

I think you’re right about the native Indians intergrating into mainstream health but from what I read and hear about the public health system in America there really isn’t much to intergrate too. If my country, Australia, Great Britain and most of the western world can have a workable public health system then why can’t the U.S.? I know the reasons you mentioned are valid but it’s just so disfunctional.

Captain Risky, i don't know why we can't have the same system here. My dad died in 1996, after serving in the USAF from 1942 to 1975. He got medical care from the US Government plus he also had Social Security and medicare part and b. Congress gets their  health care from the government,.No excuse why we cannot have the same type of health care laike Canada and Europe. My dad thought every american should have health care, like you do.

And by the way the Kikapo indians have a casino in texas, it's called Kikapo Lucky Eagle Resort. Out in the El Paso  area.

Apart from keeping their traditions alive, understanding their heritage and helping maintain their identity?

Yeah, both reason, I guess. Just try to make everyone like us, then things will work out great...

How exactly cant they keep their traditions alive and understanding their heritage if they integrate fully, over 50% of the Native Americans have left the reservations.  Besides from some cannabis use, which varies on if it would be illegal or not based on the state, there is literally nothing they cant already do.

While some people on the left hate this, in general a society does do better when there is only one culture everyone adheres to instead of a patch work of multiple cultures.

Even if this is so - forcing everyone down one path is in effect wiping out other cultures so that the preferred culture may prevail - conjures up rather unfortunate images.

When heritage is so closely entwined with a way of life, removing one will affect the other.

Maybe a homogeneous society does have fewer problems but forcing people to change is not the answer. And if any group needs to 'integrate', why isn't it the more recent arrivals? Why don't you learn about native American cultures and follow their lifestyles and religions?
