bison Posted April 24, 2018 #9 Share Posted April 24, 2018 (edited) Ammonia and hydrogen sulphide? That's a nose buster! To answer the above question, they found it with the Gemini spectroscope, an improvement over instruments used before to study the planet. Uranus' atmosphere absorbed light in the narrow color bands associated with those two pungent substances, making dark lines in the rainbow-like spectrum of the planet. That told the tale. Seti42 Posted April 24, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 24, 2018 (edited) HAHAHA! Seriously, it's not pronounced 'your anus'. Just like 'artisanal' isn't pronounced 'art is anal.' Apparently, you can't type quotation marks here. Odd. Edited April 24, 2018 by Seti42

Echoes Posted April 24, 2018 #15 Share Posted April 24, 2018 (edited) My question is why on Earth (Or not on Earth) were scientists sniffing my anus to find out about this? Also, what an insult saying it smells like rotten eggs! ________________________________________________________________ There's also no way you could know that it doesn't, as (I hope) you haven't been sniffing it as well! 15 hours ago, qxcontinuum said: No it does not. psyche101 Posted April 24, 2018 #16 Share Posted April 24, 2018 Has nobody here ever visited Rotarua in New Zealand? Smells like that too but you get used to it. It's highly volatile and a beautiful place with many public hot springs, and some would enjoy in public parks but fenced off because they are seriously hot.
