In response to the constant elevation to National News of every single incident with Guns in this nation of 330 million people, I will seek to balance it with threads like this one.

They are, according to the FBI data base, far more common.

Residents Open Fire with AR-15, 9mm Handgun and Turn the Tide on 7 Invasion Suspects

(Hey, don't blame me, that is the font the article uses)

Quote

News4Jax reports the incident occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday when the suspects kicked in the door, claiming to be from the sheriff’s office. Three residents were at home at the time, and two responded by opening fire. The resident with the AR-15 estimates he fired 30 rounds by himself.

Two suspects immediately “crumpled to the floor with multiple gunshot wounds.”

The residents then “retreated to another part of the home” and called 911.

One suspect, Corey Lauramore, died of gunshot wounds to his head and an unidentified 16-year-old was hospitalized in unknown condition. Officers found “a heavy amount of dried blood caked on the front steps of the home, a bloodstained mask with a bullet hole through it and a .380 caliber handgun lying nearby.”

Authorities believe a total of seven individuals went to the trailer Sunday morning. The five charged with home invasion are 24-year-old William Lauramore, 24-year-old Joseph Albino, 20-year-old Zachary Bell, 19-year-old Christian Watkins, and 15-year-old Cayden Lauramore.

Three things:

i) There is a long running thread called "Guns Save Lives" that is cataloging all instances like this one. I think it may be on to "Guns Save Lives 2"...
ii) When you copy/paste a title or other big text, you will see a little popup when you paste it in your new thread. The popup says "paste without formatting", or something to that effect. Clicking on the popup with remove any formatting from the text you copied. From there, you can size it however you want. I use that all the time to keep all the text uniform.
iii) Thanks for posting this. It's always good to balance the perspective :tu:

Didn't that thread get deleted?

I have noticed that the mods tend to lock up threads that have degenerated into a flame-war.

.... and for the record, I don't have a problem with that.

Good question. I remember seeing it on the main page all the time but now that you mention it, it has been a while

Well, let this be the new one, I'm fine with that.

After a certain amount of time, all threads tend to dry up and become irrelevant to current events anyway.

Before you go shouting about how great it is that people use guns to stop a crime, think about why they had to in the first place.

The bottom line for me is this...

I can find a bunch of horror stories (in quantities orders of magnitude greater than of people hurt or killed by guns) of those irreparably harmed or killed by medical mistakes... wrong parts amputated... objects left inside... doctors “tagging” the organs of their patients... horrible infections caused by unsanitary conditions... a recent story of a poor lady dying in agony after being given a formaldehyde IV... etc... etc... etc... incidents all preventable in one way or another.

Guess what? I’m not moving my family to the Congo because there are no doctors there that might hurt them. Why?  Reasonable people understand that the number of people helped by doctors far outweighs those harmed... end of story.

So, blame the victim and give props to the criminals, again?  Tsk...

Oh, are you saying that the rest of the world is perfectly peaceful just because they took the guns away?

And if guns are gone...

Here's a bizarre news item from upstate New York as reported by the Democrat & Chronicle:

Quote

The victim was identified Mouhib's seven-year-old son, Abraham E. Cardenas... Investigators said that Mouhib used a large-bladed kitchen knife to stab the victim in the upper left area of the back and in his neck, causing the victim's head to become severed from his body...

According to state records, Mouhib is licensed as a nurse practitioner who specializes in mental health.   A spokesperson for Rochester Regional Health confirmed that she worked for them from January 2016 to January 2017.

Nothing I said in there blaming the victim, which you know perfectly well.

And if you aspire to be slightly safer than Bangladesh, that's your look out. I thought you might want to be more on a par with other wealthy, developed countries but obviously not.

but we do have home invasions every 13 seconds, so as usual your point is irrelevant,  and has no relation to reality.

A victim that was armed is still the victim.

Hint; it is the bad guy that initiates the use of force, no matter if it is by kicking down the door, or cornering you in a dark alley and going for your throat.

No, that's you spinning somebody else's words and just making up some phony BS to go along with it.

I'd call it schoolyard, but I don't know of any kids that would take that seriously.

Ah yes, the endless praise for the European Socialist workers Paradise, where everything is wonderful in exchange for your money and your freedom... where you can be arrested for posting "annoying" things on the net (no joke, there is enough material for ten threads on that alone) and where some guy was just dragged through the courts for 2 years for an offense against Nazis that the Nazis themselves declined to pursue once upon a time.

But come on, its not about violence or even guns themselves, this is just another personal grudge transformed into a National Policy drive.

that is why previous threads got locked, and deleted, why do we have to justify to anyone our right, and desire to be able to defend ourselves??  real world facts posted here do it for us,  funny but most of this anti gun attitude comes from people that do not live here and never even been here.

You shouldn't have to justify it. The 2nd Amendment is just that - a right. Not a privilege, a right. Self defense is a right. When you start looking at self defense and defense of your property as a privilege, you surrender your freedom to the State.

If you want to call the Police and pray every time something happens, be my guest. I would rather stand on my own two feet and not be a target to begin with. I would rather slap an "NRA SUPPORTER" sticker in my front window and have my neighbors house broken in to instead of mine.

I said this in the "Gun Grab Begins" thread: bad things DO happen to good people. You can either be a victim or a survivor. I choose to be a survivor.

When Ar-15's were banned between 1994-2004, Columbine happened in 1999. No AR-15's used.

The shooters even used homemade bombs. So much for gun control.

Meanwhile, in other news...

“Knife crime rocketed by 22 per cent across England and Wales in the largest jump ever recorded, new figures have revealed amid a spate of stabbings in London.”

“Almost 40,000 offences involving knives or sharp weapons were recorded by police in 2017 – the highest level in seven years – while gun crime was up 11 per cent to 6,600 offences.”

“... we have seen an increase in the relatively rare, but ‘high-harm’ violent offences such as homicide, knife crime and gun crime, a trend that has been emerging over the previous two years.”

“Sexual offences recorded by police were up a quarter in the year, with rape increasing by 31 per cent to more than 50,000 offenses, and domestic abuse-related crimes also up.”

i wonder if it has anything to do with  their immigration policy,  the timing corresponds to arrival of refuges,  i assume no one thinks Brits just became so violent all of a sudden, but hey, look how good their gun control works.

Well, that's the culture, and I doubt if the immigrants will take kindly to anyone taking their knives away from them for the first time since the Romans left town.

But here is the silly part; with the exception of acid, ANYthing that could possibly be harmful is being banned.

I wish it was a joke, but no such luck;

Quote

Plastic straws, cotton buds and coffee stirrers could be banned in England by next year ... so that future generations can enjoy a natural environment that is healthier than we currently find it

https://www.************/money/6087260/theresa-may-plastic-ban-straws-environment/

Yeah, that's the thing.

You don't need them until you do.

In a SHTF situation, it would certainly be better to be armed.

And looking around at the world...I am not convinced it won't hit the fan.

Actually the crime of home invasion is under reported in other countries because the criminal charges leveled at the perpetrators is usually the peripheral crime committed during the invasion such as robbery, assault or rape. In the US it's an additional crime.
