Macron sure US will return to Paris accord

French President Emmanuel Macron told Congress Wednesday he’s positive that the United States will return to the Paris Agreement on climate change, after spending several cordial days with President Trump.

Speaking to a joint meeting of Congress, Macron emphasized the importance and history of the Franco-American alliance, which dates to the American Revolution. He expressed pride that both nations still uphold many of the same values and safeguard liberty by fighting terrorism. The main topic of his discussions with Trump was the pact to freeze Iran’s nuclear program, which the U.S. president has threatened to scrap but France wants to keep in force.

But as he wraps up a three-day visit to Washington, Macron also hinted at his profound disagreement with Trump’s decision to pull the U.S. from the international accord to limit the increase in average global temperature to less than 2°C during this century.

It'll be interesting to see how Trump and America in general react to Macron's speech.

Macron attacks nationalism in speech to US Congress

(Pasting a little more than usual, as it's an interesting read)

Bonhomie and blows

Analysis by BBC North America editor Jon Sopel

Macron has provided a masterclass to other world leaders on how to handle Donald Trump - you cuddle up close, you flatter where necessary - but you use that to allow you to pack a big punch.

He also spoke about the very special relationship between France and the US, a move that might have had some in Downing Street choking on their tea.

In a cleverly crafted speech, he started with the entente between himself and the US president that some said was just too cordial. But then came the punches - and they were hard-hitting jabs, taking direct aim at Donald Trump's policy agenda. On free trade, on the importance of science, on inequality - and Mr Trump's America First policies.

Then he audaciously borrowed Donald Trump's Make America Great Again slogan to talk about the environment, and the importance of the climate change agreement the US has pulled out of. He said it was time to make the Earth great again.

The speech was punctuated by applause and cheering. This was an important moment in the US Congress. Emmanuel Macron has emerged as a world leader who offers a competing and sharply different world vision to the US president - while all the time maintaining a bonhomie with him. That's quite a political feat.

I thought it was very brave, in the political sense, of Macron. He was quite happy to spell out exactly what he saw as wrong with trump / USA polices, while at the same time trying to build a rapport with same.

There are other world leaders who consider themselves close to Trump / USA who would not have had the  .... to do that.

I don't see it like that.... Macron READ OUT a speech that was written for him - (like politicians do) -

I see Macron as a political actor - a kind of blank sheet filled with + projecting the ideas and thoughts of his sponsors
and mentors... he came from nowhere to win the French Presidency and is a bit of a latter day Tony Blair - centrist, globalist
+ on a charm offensive ----

Trump had better watch out that he doesn't get flattered into policy changes by the Globalist Cuckoo parachuted into the Nationalist Nest :)

Of course, because the leaders of entire countries have no part in the creation of their own speeches.

I suspect it was likely just handed to him by his Reptilian overlords, yeah?

From his speech:

Quote

Mr Macron said isolationism, withdrawal and nationalism "can be tempting to us as a temporary remedy to our fears. But closing the door to the world will not stop the evolution of the world. It will not douse but inflame the fears of our citizens".

Maybe some countries aren't ready to be a part of this "evolution of the world", whatever that means?

Quote

Mr Macron said that the US had invented multilateralism and now needed to reinvent it to create a new 21st Century world order.

He said the UN and the Nato military alliance might not be able to fulfil their mandates and assure stability if the West ignored the new dangers arising in the world.

Sorry, what "new dangers" is the West ignoring? If he's talking about the dangers of radical Islam or rampant migration of the third world, no one would know better than the President of France.

Canada's carbon output is 1.54% of Global emissions. That's less than South Korea. China farts on a Thursday and dumps 30x that number in one day yet our Canadian PM is quickly killing our economy over new environmental pledges. The Paris Accord is a joke. Very few, if any, of us have the resources to cut cheap power and invest entirely in "green", unproven and horrible expensive technologies. But thanks for the sermon from up in your ivory tower, Macron.

He lectures the West on immigration, environmentalism and some ambiguous "new dangers". This guy is globalist scum and therefore not worth listening to.

Sorry Mac, no way in hell are we going to join the third world as you have decided to do for your country. Your country is being raped and pillaged by savages. Within 20 years your country will look like Afghanistan. If you want us to take people in, we will take the people who are victims of mass immigration, who you no longer care about. Who you have left to try and fend off rape gangs and human traffickers, drug dealers, and just outright violent people. People who have taken your kindness and p***ed all over it. And you are demanding the victims smile about it, and not say a word against it.  Many people are now afraid to leave their own damn homes.

Im starting to think this is why they took your guns, so the people are defenseless. I just got done watching a video of several of Europe's leaders saying they want to destroy the white race. That they have brought these people to your country to BREED with you. WTH????  What happened to population reduction to save the planet? Then have the nerve to bring up the Paris accord??? Forget Europe. You people need to get your heads out of your ***** and stop this madness.

That's just what he does, Mac.

He pretends to be listening to what you're saying.
