Bernie Proposes Job Guarantee

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will announce a plan for the federal government to guarantee a job paying $15 an hour and health-care benefits to every American worker “who wants or needs one,” embracing the kind of large-scale government works project that Democrats have shied away from in recent decades.

Sanders's jobs guarantee would fund hundreds of projects throughout the United States aimed at addressing priorities such as infrastructure, care giving, the environment, education and other goals. Under the job guarantee, every American would be entitled to a job under one of these projects or receive job training to be able to do so, according to an early draft of the proposal.

I wonder how many supposedly 'pro-jobs' conservatives are gonna automatically oppose this...

The need for jobs out here in rural America is huge. I don't see what he could do but, a lot of folks out here want work and there is just nothing but a min wage job far enough away half your money goes to gas and vehicle upkeep. Back when gas hit 5 bucks a gallon people had to quit as it cost more to work than they made. Literally.

I think there’ll be complaints of a “how dare I be forced to work for my money” from certain quarters.

The problem with old Bernie's proposal is the word "free".

Free jobs,, free health care, free college, free everything.

Yet everybody who pays tax pays......

...except those who don't want to work but want everything freeeee!!!

It's simply economics.

A pipe dream.

Not necessarily in this case, I think it’s a case of “well, there are 1,000 unemployed in Westchester New York, if we build a school there, it should give them X jobs...” and the rules for that construction will include a certain amount of Unemployed be employed in the construction, so I can see your equivalent of CentreLink doing the hiring and firing for work there.

The government isn't the market.  The government will never be able to maintain what it promises. Whenever it has it creates a false distortion.  A bubble.

Bubble Bernie Sanders

Well, I know yuo don’t like, and nine times out of ten don’t apply, comparisons with Oz, but we do have government funded and supported building schemes that employ unemployed workers.

If there are not enough such jobs in the private sector, is the federal government to employ every unskilled worker that needs a job at those wages and benefits? Shouldn't then every worker not making those wages and benefits quit their current job to get  guaranteed government supplied job?

What if the labor supplied by these guaranteed jobs is not worth to a company in a global competitive market their salary and benefits?

It all sounds to me like the next Great American Depression ready to happen. I'll buy the cheaper priced goods from China that I can afford, thank you.

I'm thinking the global economy needs to determine the wages and benefits that are sustainable at a certain time. That might mean poorer countries salaries on the rise and richer countries salaries on the decline.

smh. I cant even imagine what its like to live in Bernie world. So now the tax payer is going to be responsible to pay what will amount to millions of salaries, and the health care that will come with those jobs? Now we are going to add millions of government jobs? We cant get through a single year without ever burying ourselves in more and more debt.  Bernie has already told us all taxes will go up dramatically under his administration. That was before this brain storm. How much more so now with this little project?

Every single time the government interferes with the market it ALWAYS results in massive waste and corruption. It also completely screws the private sector over, and raises the prices of everything related.  Bernie knows damn well millions of good paying jobs will officially be leaving our shores the day after he wins. So what's his great idea? He will just create jobs that produce nothing and cost the already struggling middle class more then they can afford.

Its almost too bad we can't let this happen. If for nothing more then to show these people that government utopia's is not a real thing.

Also, since everyone will be guarantied a job, does that mean they cant be fired? My goodness, imagine that. Millions of employee's who will potentially choose to do nothing while taking large chunks of cash every week from people who are actually productive.

The scary part is, if not for Clinton stealing the nomination, we'd probably be in Marxist hell right now.

Socialism is the worst enemy of the blue collar middle class. It would force us to help family members we wouldn't help normally ( because they won't get off their ass) and it would make us poorer with the higher taxes.

Yeah logistically America is so big that this seems very hard to do.  I mean maybe if they had a civilian conservation corpse type camps to do work.  I don't know what someone living in 30 person town that is 250 miles from any larger city would be able to do.

If I hit the lotto, one thing I would do is locate a product to sell and open a small factory locally to get employment options up and go from there, scaled down to local needs. 100-200 jobs would make a massive difference for the parish. It doesn't take much just it needs this times every smaller parish in the state, times the other states and their poorer counties...

In using the word parish that is louisiana.  I was thinking more like Modoc county in CA.  I threw in some of the states from wiki.  they have towns with 30 people out there that are hundreds of miles from the larger population center.  Most of the jobs are forestry related.   Giving people in super isolated locations jobs is very challenging.  It seems like they could easily put a call center in a tiny town and give a real economic boost.  A government job is much more difficult to do here.  For profit companies do a better job figuring out profitable enterprise out there because they grind away if they don't make money.

I still say take away the EBT cards from the non-working poor and make fast food joints, warehouses and Walmart give em jobs. We'll save millions!

do you think they will want jobs? they get free money, eligible for medicaid, walmart and fast food will pay min wage, after taxes, it will be about as much as they got for free, but now they work, no medicaid, can't really afford insurance for min wage, and  i'm sure those places will keep them few hours shy of full time, and wont provide any med. insurance, i wonder if Bernie though of that,

I know all about them. They are called "Indians" and they get healthcare regardless. I won't go to the clinic. They want to stuff me with drugs I don't need and perform surgeries that are unnecessary...like medicaid does....As long as there are profiteers, it's all a very unfunny joke...
