I know all about them. They are called "Indians" and they get healthcare regardless. I won't go to the clinic. They want to stuff me with drugs I don't need and perform surgeries that are unnecessary...like medicaid does....As long as there are profiteers, it's all a very unfunny joke...

i do not think Bernie was talking about only Indians, unless i read you wrong

No, I'm just using my own as a example. If I don't it's considered "racist"

If it gets people working, then I'm glad if they get training. I'd rather my tax dollars paid for training so that they could then have a decent job.

It's stupid that people can be working full time and still need food stamps.

I'm also glad if we can do needed work on infrastructure.

I think we should focus training on the jobs we can't fill because we don't have qualified people.

In principle, I agree to all of that .... and yea freaking gods do we need infrastructure revamped! One CME and the Black Plague will look like a minor inconvenience.

However... our kids already go to school for twelve years. That is a hell of a lot of schooling, and yet they come out of it qualified to do nothing. They don't even do Shop class in most High Schools anymore.

I think they ought to get a little more serious, and stop graduating kids that are good for nothing but either unskilled labor or passing on to "Higher" education that will put them six figures in debt right out of the gate.

I still say take away the EBT cards from the non-working poor and make fast food joints, warehouses and Walmart give em jobs. We'll save millions!

Yeah that sounds great, but can you get them to pay enough so that I still don't need an EBT card as an additional substitute for my crappy low wages? Because it's oh so fun working at Target for peanuts and barely scraping by without that EBT card.

I meant the money part not the food part. and I agree with jacking up the minimum wage....

The corruption with all the assistance programs in my tribal office was off the hook. Absolutely nauseating. As long as you have socialism you have profiteers and that whole system needs to be changed so you don't and the thieves are eliminated.

I know. They allow me some cash benefits in trade to make up the difference for the low balance from my EBT account. They usually give it to mothers who are raising children on their own like me. I never heard of them giving cash benefits to people without a child. But sometimes it comes in handy for those little extra things my child requires that food stamps can't buy like, toothpaste, special items or clothes for school - public schools still cost money even though attendance is free.

But I would gladly give it up if I could get higher pay. Because I don't won't a handout, although a handup helps until I can't get a higher wage to support me and my child.

Well I didn't mean it like that. I just wish most companies would pay a little more is all. It's a struggle when prices go up but the paychecks don't year after year.

Okay well I guess that is specific to your area. They usually catch the people in my area and take away all their benefits if they are doing something illegal with those benefits. They're pretty strict in my area, which is good.

i think we need to look at it on case by case basis, those that work, should not get anything cut, those that do not, never did, and not even looking, should get 6mo to get their sht together, and if not cards get taken away.

@Katniss   New Jersey is the welfare profiteer-welfare fraud state to go to. They were actually passing out pamphlets in Puerto Rico that said to come to Camden or Vineland.

i would say yes, but it is not so simple,  at some point it will make some bushiness not make enough to stay afloat, in that case they will close up and those that had even low pay jobs will have none,

or they will pay more to some , they will make 2 do job of 3. and lay off third

Yeah they actually have a good and fair program here where I'm at. It's called a workfare program. You either have to work for DHS at the city recycling center for so many hours a week or have job to receive food benefits. They give you a month to find a job first and if can't then you go work at the city recycling center. If you don't do either then your snap benefits get taken away.

Isn't Chris Christie Governor of NJ? I would of thought he would of put a stop to that.

Not anymore, and he was bought, threatened and paid for by the South Jersey Democrats. I saw him literally sucking Sweeney and Norcross's butts. He was a marshmellow with them.

I agree about high school. I wish they came out with the skills to make a decent living, but they just don't.

Everyone needs college or some type of trade school in order to make it.

I know every conservative will balk at this, but I think at least community college should be free.

Think how many more jobs we could fill if at least the courses needed to fill them were free.

There used to be grants, but not so much anymore. Everyone has to get into huge debt.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will announce a plan for the federal government to guarantee a job paying $15 an hour and health-care benefits to every American worker “who wants or needs one,” embracing the kind of large-scale government works project that Democrats have shied away from in recent decades.

Sanders's jobs guarantee would fund hundreds of projects throughout the United States aimed at addressing priorities such as infrastructure, care giving, the environment, education and other goals. Under the job guarantee, every American would be entitled to a job under one of these projects or receive job training to be able to do so, according to an early draft of the proposal.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2018/04/23/bernie-sanders-to-unveil-plan-to-guarantee-every-american-a-job/?utm_term=.32ecad38c9aa

I wonder how many supposedly 'pro-jobs' conservatives are gonna automatically oppose this...

You know what? I kind of like the undertone of this idea, but  I'd not sell it as a guarantee. Guaranteeing something is just going to bring lawsuits in the USA.

If the US FedGov did the research, and built the infrastructure, located in places where it would do the most good... Giving education cheaper... And thus driving down University costs. Providing incentives for Small Business, or for corporate investment.... That I could support. But, I'd not just give jobs to people at $15 an hour, just to basically buy their votes.

They are trying out the $15 minimum wage in places around the US and I'm waiting to see if any of them are very successful. Usually takes a couple years before corporate interests will move in or out. And another couple years to see if small business are going under or thriving.

No not everyone does. I did go to tech school for one thing and it didn’t pan out to well afterwards. I ended up working with a contractor doing construction, didn’t take things for granted, ended up partnering with him and have been running a business together for over ten years now. With some connections and a little luck I’ve done fairly well. I’m not touting my horn or even saying that I’m the best. Honestly I probably should be doing even better by now but I can’t complain. Just saying school meant nothing for me in the long run and not everybody needs it. Common sense and a little perseverance can go far.

Lovely proposition.  Nationalize the job market and then we can look forward to being Hungary or East Germany.  Just make everyone objectively poor.  Yeah, I can see how everybody would want this.  How long is this sustainable before the economy collapses?  And the riots begin in earnest?

The way I see it, it’s less nationalising the jobs market, and more creating a Governement Labour Corps that works out of various locales and does the jobs no one else wants but which need to be done.

well capitalism seems to be having a similar effect also in widening the gap between the have's and have not's, wouldn't you say? job creation over the last 30 years has moved from full time work to more causal and part time mickey mouse employment.

i commend Bernie for wanting to address the inequities in the job market but socialism (which is what he is advocating) is dead and buried and just as useless for the average joe as capitalism.

all hail big business our true overlord.

The gap might be widening under capitalism but there are no restrictions and few inhibitors until you attempt to compete with the mega-corps. Success isn’t easy and that why few make it and once they reach a certain level of wealth acquiring more begins to happen faster and faster and that is what forms the gap at a faster and faster pace as more succeed, few as they are, and acquire more wealth. The cool thing under capitalism though is that anyone can join that club. Socialism kills incentive to work because you’re taken care in some way no matter what and it kills incentive to succeed when the more you make the more they take and the less they’ll do.

Im always seeing these millionaire and billionaire tips for success memes and they’re all generally the same. Be positive, avoid negativity, don’t btch and complain then wonder why you are where you are, try, fail, try again, fail again, avoid time wasters like games, Netflix and unexplained mysteries.

Then that needs to be changed.

Schools need to stop boring kids to death, one size does NOT fit all minds, and social studies need to take a back seat to skills related to actually doing something.

Teens that are aware of their surroundings would be a nice change...

Oh, I don't think it is the Conservatives you would have to worry about.

Its the College Administrators and prof's that are making six figures working a dozen hours a week that you will be up against wiht that one.^_^

The problem with grants and all of the aid is that the Universities always kick their prices right up to match the aid meant to help students deal with the cost in the first place.

IMHO, College costs have to be regulated, the abuse is staggering... but see above.

The conservatives in Tennessee have already approved two years of free college.

Once unthinkable, tuition-free college has become a reality.

Four states and one city have enacted measures in the past three years. And lawmakers in several other places across the country are considering similar programs.

More than 30,000 Tennesseans and 7,000 Oregonians have gone to community college tuition free already. Students in New York and San Francisco are set to start on the same path this fall. And it's picking up steam, with lawmakers in several other places across the country considering similar programs.

Most college and university degrees are already useless.

Making them government free only makes it worse... And expensive.

Most jobs today can be better trained by experienced employees.

No need for school.

People with degrees have better paying jobs, mostly.

Better pay means more taxes.

You're missing the point

No need for worthless paper
