No hidden chambers in Tutankhamun's tomb

Recent radar scans of Tutankhamun's tomb conclusively prove that there are no additional chambers or passages behind the walls of the famed pharaoh's burial chamber in the Valley of the Kings, Egyptian officials announced today.

A statement was released today on behalf of Mostafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, during the fourth annual International Tutankhamun GEM Conference, held at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza.

The announcement brings to a disappointing end an investigation that began three years ago, when Egyptologist and National Geographic grantee Nicholas Reeves theorized that the tomb of legendary 18th-Dynasty queen Nefertiti may be hidden behind the walls of Tut's 3,300-year-old tomb.

  • The title was changed to No hidden chambers in Tutankhamun's tomb

Ah well, a disappointment to be sure...especially for Reeves no doubt.  Now all eyes will turn to the Khufu pyramid voids, and to Zahi and his Discovery TV team with its purported Ankhesenamun find.

Ok, I'm good with final analysis.

But what accounts for the earlier indications of a void?

Equipment malfunction? Over zealous investigators?

And what about drilling through the wall to confirm or dismiss a "void"... I know the Egyptian authorities rarely grant drilling. But still.

Honestly, I'm not sure I buy it. It took them two whole years to just say that there's nothing there? What about the earlier scans that did show a void? Did they scan the walls and from above? Then there's the wall that many experts have said is likely a false wall designed to fool tomb robbers? I just don't have whole lot of trust for the current egyptologists when Hawass still has his fingers in the proverbial pot.

They've done three.

One showed a void.  The second didn't.  The third one confirmed that there was no void.

Hawass has nothing to do it anymore. No need to use him as a boogyman. And trying to fool tomb robbers isn't terribly effective since today we know a lot of those tomb robbers were the guys who had built the tombs in the first place..

Gee, that wasn't terribly surprising, was it?

Not one bit.  I was never convinced of it in the first place, and after hearing that the priests of Amun hated Nefertiti (and vice-versa) and that the Valley of the Kings was dedicated to Amun, it seemed one of the least likely places for her to want to build a tomb.  Or to try to build a tomb.  My bet would be Amarna.

I always found it within the realm of possibility that there might be more chambers in there, but the whole Nefertiti angle always seemed romanticized to a silly degree to me.

Are there any arguments/Disagreements from other scientists/professionals in the field?

Frankly, I don't buy it either, after seeing good ddocumentaries about this the last two scans are VERY sure something is behind it.

The first scan is what was supposed to confirm something is in there. In other words, the scanning team fancifully told the Egyptians what they wanted to hear. I remember even at the time other specialists disagreed with their findings and were dubious that anything's there.

The second scan didn't show anything. This is the third scan, and it also doesn't show anything. That's pretty convincing.

No news since November 2017, and that was through a for-profit article.

I hate that.

When was the second scan?

I believe 2016, but can't remember the month. The first one was in 2015. I remember starting a thread on the first one.

Let's not be too hasty. UM will send you in there with hammer and chisel for further exploration.

Are you good at working in a pitch-black chamber in the dead of night? We mustn't let anyone know. :P

You must not get caught. UM will have no choice but to disavow you. Your daughter will have to break you out.

truth is this is all disinformation as behind that wall was our hidden crypt and I am just pretending to be Not A Rockstar and my mummy wraps are hidden under this good looking mask you know? But soon the danger of discovery will pass and I can come out as my mummified self at last. But we have succeeded in stopping the scans from finding our clubhouse now so its all good.

Disappointing but not surprising. Always I've heard Tut was buried in a tomb built for someone else and most of his treasure was altered for the same reason. Would have made sense that someone else could be in there, but I guess not.

yeah, I thought well, maybe they did do that, as sudden as he died, it seemed plausible.

Data is not always right , there are always errors in data.  Queen Nefertiti i would think has to be somewhere next to King Tut.
