NASA's Magnetospheric Multiscale Spacecraft has discovered magnetic reconnection near Earth.

I should have been more clear, the 'discovery' is magnetic reconnection in the plasma boundary material. It's a 'new' location within which this process is happening that has been discovered.

It's like finding monkeys on Papua New Guinea then finding monkeys on a nearby island.
